How long are they going to hold Andrew McCutchen back. And please don't give me the "super-young" excuse. He's ready.

I really don't understand the argument that management is holding McCutchen back. He is a 22 year old in his second season in AAA. Keeping him in AAA serves a number of purposes. Foremost, it allows Andrew to focus on certain aspects of his game that need more refinement, without the pressure of performing at the major league level. It also will allow the Pirates to extend control of his rights an extra year. The earliest possible date for the Pirates to contend is 2010. There's no point in starting his arbitration clock earlier than necessary in a season that is virtually meaningless.

While he has performed well at AAA, and could probably handle the majors right now, it's not like he has been dominant at AAA. There's no harm in giving him another month or two in Indy to continue to develop.

McCutchen will almost certainly be up on June 1 for the reasons outlined by subject to change. A whole year of McCutchen in 2015 > 2 extra months of McCutchen in 2009.
