Anyone have an official checklist on these? Seems that the SAMPLE stamp font drastically changed between 2001/02 and 2003. And a lot of different sets don't seem to be catalogued from 2003.

There is a thread called Early 2000's Donruss/Playoff Beckett Samples that was started by me a while ago. Someone posted an informal list of which sets have samples, but I don't know that an "official" list is available.

Sorry, I don't know how to post a link to a thread when using the mobile app. I can post it when I get home or maybe someone else can?

Sent using the Freedom Card Board mobile app.

I think some of your later cards weren't the samples issued in Beckett magazines. There are also cards from this time period that were marked SAMPLE by DLP that were file copies sent to MLB for licensing requirements. These SAMPLE copies have found there way into the markets, and are basically 1/1's of every card Donruss issued. The SAMPLE font on these tend to be larger than the Beckett cards. I would go with Beckett's list for those issued in Beckett magazine. If your card isn't on their lists, it's probably an MLB file copy sample.

As proof, here's an MLB file copy. Beckett didn't issue GU cards in the magazine. I think some of the "insert" samples another poster mentioned are MLB file copies. You can still find many of the MLB file copies marked "SAMPLE" at most major card shows. The file copies are from 2003-2005 DLP products.

Right on gracecollector - that makes a lot of sense. Was fairly certain they were legit sample copies since the font was the same only bigger. Plus that last sample of Baker doesn't exist in any out of set card form w/o an autograph.

I'd do backflips if I could find the silver and gold samples of Carlos Baerga from the 2003 Donruss Team Heroes set. I'm still not convinced they made cards for every player - with the size of that set and the circulation of the magazine, that would mean there's only around 50 silvers and maybe 5 golds....
