An older man came into my store yesterday who I began talking cards with. We discussed the hobby and our best trades / pulls. He told me that back in the mid 90's he pulled a Juan Gonzalez card #ed 5/5. At the time to pull an item of this scarcity was a big deal. Long story short he traded the Gonzalez for a Ryan rc (hes a ryan collector). He was telling me how this card was the most pristine thing hes ever seen and that it is in "true perfect condition". So today he comes in with the card and to say I was floored is an understatement. This card was in better condition then cards coming out of packs today. I know most will say trimming and all that but this card has been in his posession since 94 (thats what he said) and I have a strong gut feeling its totally legit. If this thing were to grade at a bvg 9 or even a 9.5 what would this bring at auction ? (keep in mind it would be the 8th bvg9 and the 1st 9.5)

It'd bring alot more if it were PSA graded, According to the SMR, a PSA 9 with no qualifiers should get 5500, and I'd double that for a 10

Don't think trimming didn't exist back then.Although at the time it wasn't always meant to be deceiving.Sometimes it was to make the card look nicer. It wasn't taboo like it is today.

That's insane if it's legit. No idea on the value, but wow...a card that old in that condition today is virtually impossible...or maybe not

He wants to grade it but isd one of those "i dont want the card out of my sight guys" so I told him to go the the hofstra show when bgs is there. He is also set on BGS.

If he wants to keep it in his collection I wouldn't be that worried about
what holder its in. It's his card . I personally would have it in a PSA or SGC . BGS would
be my third option.
