Dave Giusti of the Astros tosses a 6-hit shutout in an 11-0 rout of the Reds, striking out two and walking none. More impressive than his pitching performance are his two consecutive plate appearances in the middle innings of the game.

In the bottom of the 4th inning, Giusti comes to the plate with the bases loaded and two outs, with the Astros holding a 1-0 lead. With Ronnie Brand on first, Bob Aspromonte on second, and Rusty Staub on third, Giusti drills a ball to left center, clearing the bases with a 3-run double.

In the bottom of the 5th inning, the Astros have put together another rally. Giusti comes to the plate, again with the bases loaded. Once again, it is the same three men occupying the bases: Ronnie Brand on first, Bob Aspromonte on second, and Rusty Staub on third. This time with only one out, Giusti crushes the ball into the gap in left center, where Reds centerfielder Vada Pinson fields the ball. He hits the cutoff man, shortstop Leo Cardenas, who fires to third baseman Tommy Helms who tags out Giusti trying to stretch his double into a triple. However, the damage is done: Giusti is credited with a second 3-run double in consecutive at bats.

After five innings and an 8-0 lead, Giusti cruises, allowing only one baserunner the rest of the way.

Giusti finished the game 2-4 with 6 RBIs and no runs scored. There have only been 12 times that it has been confirmed that a player finished with 6 or more RBIs in a game without scoring a run (since 1956, the retrosheet era). Giusti is the first, and the feat won't happen again for 18 years, until Pete O'Brien duplicates the feat. Augie Ojeda of the Diamondbacks is the most recent to accomplish this, in 2008. 11 times, a player had 6 RBIs and no runs scored, but only once does a player have more than 6 RBIs: Current Yankees manager Joe Girardi had 7 RBIs in a 21-3 rout in 1999, yet fails to score a run.

Here is the complete list of players (since 1956) to have at least 6 RBIs in a game without scoring a run: http://www.baseball-reference.com/pi/shareit/nDXh
