He was 11-10 last year on a team that went 82-80. His underlying stats say he should've been at least a few more games over .500 (sub-4.00 ERA, still about 1 K/IP, reasonable WHIP). A 13-8 year sounds more appealing, but it is what it is. At any rate, I can't see how signing Johnson can be a bad thing, especially at "only" $8M.

Interesting. With Lincecum, Zito and Johnson, are there any other teams who've had 3 CYAs? Mid-90s Braves, I can't think of any others. And Cain is still young, though it seems like he's been around a long time already. With some offense, the Giants could be contenders already. Is it OK to sign Bonds now?

I would, except he's not the golden glover OF anymore. I do like the signing but 8 mill seems to be a bit much. But i really hope he can help the Giants young pitchers.

However, this may mean they are trading sanchez while his trade value is higher then ever and keep noah lowry.

$8 mil a year doesn't get you much these days. As long as Randy Johnson maintains an ERA around 4 (don't know what kind of record that'll lead to on the Giants) and gets his 300th win, it will be $ 8 mil well spent.
