Rangers Offered Smoak & Feliz For Johnson
By Ben Nicholson-Smith [December 8 at 6:27pm CST]
The Rangers must be confident in their chances next year. Both T.R. Sullivan of MLB.com and Richard Durrett of ESPNDallas.com are reporting that the team offered Justin Smoak and Neftali Feliz to the Marlins for Josh Johnson.

If that offer didn't get it done, then the Marlins truly are committed to starting the season with their 25-year-old ace.

This coming from MLBTRADERUMORS.COM

WOW! True though... if the Marlins didn't take that Johnson will definitly be a Marlin next year

There's still a chance. It was reported that the Rangers offered that. It doesn't say anything about them being rejected yet.

If the Fish turn that down, they're idiots.

IMO although the Rangers are giving up 2 terrific youngsters. Look at what happened with Joba which is basically the situation Feliz is in. Maybe the Rangers feel that the same thing could happen to Feliz and at best he'll be a reliever. Then Smoak, maybe they feel Davis is their guy at 1st. They may only have what a year or 2 of Johnson before his contract expires, but I am sure they feel that it is either 2010 or 2011 that they will have a chance at winning and by doing this would really give them a shot

I don't see how the Marlins can possibly turn that down. They turned Johnson into a wanted commodity and have been offered top flight prospects for him. Resembles a lot of what Florida has done the past 10 years

I think it a great deal for the Rangers. The had a great offense last year and sub par starting pitching. They finished with 87 wins and need an Ace pitcher to get over the hump. Yes Smoak and Feliz are great prospects but their core offensive players are great now (Texas) and to make a run you need players that will produce for you today. Josh Johnson is a stud and easily can translate into 5-10 more wins for them. Feliz showed he can be a stud but I will take a proven Ace like Johnson over two prospects any day of the week. Unless I was selling their cards on Ebay :D

Johnson will abused in the AL.

No he won't be abused in the AL. There isn't 10 pitchers in the AL that are better than him.....

This deal makes PERFECT sense for both teams. A young ACE POTENTIAL Starting pitcher for the Rangers, and for the Marlins Two Young, Cheap, High ceiling prospects.
