The thing with those Online Winners is, I would be SHOCKED if there wasn't a horde of these out there somewhere. With the way Pacific went under and all the backdoor stuff that has shown up on the market, there's got to be a boatload of these are hiding out there.

Being serious: You think? (no sarcasm - hands raised in defense)

I'm actually hopeful you're right. But so far the bulk of Pacific, including plates (some of questionable validity), the photographic slides, in-house samples/replacements, even the printing presses - have all seen the market, but these stamped buggers keep eluding everyone.

There's probably 4 or 5 monster boxes in someone's storage closet completely full of these things.

I think your much more likely to find someone who bought the embossing plate before you find monsters boxes of these. With so many collectors not able to find their guy, I doubt they are hiding somewhere.

Beautiful card and it looks great in a 10 slab but no way that centering earns a 10.

sweet card, but it shocks me that BGS reserves a grade that no other grading company does, as to suggest the ultimate perfect condition card, and then the centering is off....

Grading is and has always been subjective...this is one reason I don't like graded cards. I won't crack this out of the case but I didn't buy it for the grade....more for the actual card. Maybe someday they can take pictures and look for pixel deviations and determine centering/sufrace grades on those but until then...I'd stay clear of graded cards when possible.

If some middle manager looted these when they were boarding up shop, took them home, and shoved them in a closet with no real idea what he had, I think my theory is very, very feasible.

If you took cards from pacific you obviously thought they had some value. Why take something just to basically store it? That's why I don't think it happened. I do hope I'm wrong cause I'd love to see an Andruw but my optimism is so low I basically count it as a 1/1.

Hmm. <nodding>

Because of the time that has passed since Pacific went under (8 years now and counting) I can't quite see it - but I agree that it's within the realm of the possible.

My fear is that Pacific actually did what they said they would do and only stamped enough to cover the redemptions. I'm trying to find the interview which quoted Mike Cramer when he was talking about Pacific Online - if I find it I'll post it.

In truth, I'm actually hoping your theory (or something similar) proves correct. I really hate the idea that not one Thomas was redeemed. Even if only one was (of each of the three levels) I'd be happy - it'd give me something to shoot for. But without any concrete info - I'm stuck basically shooting into the dark and hoping to hit something - and that rarely works. <laugh>

Those are 150 as well...

S'funny, I only just finished that issue recently. I had been searching for the Platinum PP Checklist since 1996, if you can believe it.

One of the few times I paid Burbank with a smile. ;)

Thanks, his pic is pretty bad and I have never seen a card from the set before so I had no idea.

I just picked up the Platinum in June from Sportlots. I paid something like $2-3 for it. Funny thing is that the last card I needed to complete this rainbow was the base card. For some reason the base cards never seem to pop up.

I wonder if tonsofcommons knows anything about the Pacific Online release...

Really, I don't.

I am not really well versed on information about Pacific issues, even though I should be.

Personally, I don't care for the versions that do not have the serial number and I won't touch the Printing plates.

I have yet to see any of these online winners.

Whats the deal on the plates?I have seen one particular seller who always seems to have a Bagwell pop up from time to time.I have never purchased one but I was wondering if there was something common knowledge that I don't know already.

landed this tonight....maybe I over paid, not sure :?

Only one I've ever seen was this one, which sold for more than I paid a few years back (before it was in a 10 slab). #2 on my most wanted list is finally crossed off!

I've been wondering this as well, I have a couple of the Pacific collapse plates of Clark, always kinda felt they may be fake but that they are cool items.

Yeah...like I have said before too...it wouldn't be that hard to fake a plate. If you work at a printing shop or have access to one...you could burn a bunch of cards on one plate.Hell...you could even run it through the presses a few times with some ink on the rollers and they would look used.Find a way to cut them with the corners rounded and you have a very easy way to make a few bucks.Obviously this would be a lot of trouble for your average person but not for someone who had the access.

Wouldn't the wording, or least the images, be backwards on the plates?

I don't work at a print shop or even been to one honestly, but the plates I've seen on eBay showed the images reversed.
