If a guy like Bryce Brown becomes a Heisman candidate and first round pick...those autographs (limited to only 84) will blow up. Obviously Brown isn't the only decent player in the 2009 set, but this is really the first chance to prospect football.

I'm interested in this to? Other than investing in backup quarterbacks, wide receivers, and running backs and hoping for an injury what can you do? Invest in "under the radar" playoff bound teams and hope for the best?

trends in the nfl are more difficult to spot, and more luck is involved, but you can find talented guys that are just blocked where they are. Buy them up, and flip them for profit after free agency or a trade.

Yup. I have bought players based on potential and surroundings. I remember when Larry Johnson was relatively cheap because Priest Holmes was tearing it up ahead of him. Robert Meachem and Sidney Rice were both considered disappointments based on their draft position, up until this year. Drew Brees was on his way out of San Diego until he blew up in 04 and 05, resulting in RIvers sitting on the bench. If you bought and sold any of these players at the right time, you would have turned a large profit.

same thing i was just going to say, most of the time people buy cards of baseball players that are not in the pros yet which is prospecting, if they are already in the pros i dont really see that as prospecting...but getting a card of someone right out of highschool on the other hand like the brown auto is different

Dont minor league players get paid? In my mind, they are already pro. Maybe not MLB pro, but they are getting paid to play, much like current NFL players are.

A potential "NFL prospect" is not a current NFL roster player, just like an "MLB prospect" is not a current MLB player.

Hmmm, according to the dictionary, the number one definition for prospect is "something expected, a possibility." So If I buy a player who is on the bench because I expect him to do well and/or there is a possibility of him doing well, that is not prospecting because he is already on the team? Do baseball fans just make up rules as they go?

Don't forget that there are certain people who think they are Gods of the hobby because they are prospectors. They don't want any football prospectors joining their elite group! Buying a backup and hoping to flip later us prospecting, plain and simple.

I see no difference in stocking up on a backup QB behind an older vet or hoping that he has a good preseason. To me, it is the same as stocking up on a pitcher in hopes he goes 2-0 with a low ERA, lots of Ks and making that BA Hot List people follow.

Explain this one. There is no cue for "belief" on this. I backed my argument up with a definition and loose example, but I dont see any legitimate response with yours. Its all based on "belief" which leads me to assume its made up. Sorry.

As everyone knows when hype is involved it only takes a pitcher's 1st game/start to cause an explosion in thier SV's, & that is exactly what occurred when Matusz got called up & pitched/started in his very first MLB appearance (going 5ip/3BB/5K/1.80 ERA & getting the Win). This initiated an immediate & noticeably HUGE jump in his card's SV's...well all of his card's exploded except his Razor issue's which were not profitable as they didn't reach thier initial buy-in price's (though his UD USA cut-out window index card auto's were selling at $15-$25 more than they usually were, & the lower #'d issue's were selling for even more of a profit). So Matusz's card's DID spike, just not his Razor version's!

I personally think this Razor High School Football stuff has potential, as they are doing what no other companies are doing & that way they'll attract 100% of whatever market there is for this stuff (VERY smart by Razor)! And as for "prospecting" in football, I've been doing it successfully for year's! And as Chris noted, it may be a little more easier than in baseball...it still has been going on for as long as I can remember (prospecting isn't exclusive to any one sport...I "prospect" in basketball also)!

Its actually around football prospecting, but apparently that is not entirely possible. So maybe this thread is but a dream? Unless you suffer from sleepwalking or night terrors, all will be well with your computer when you wake up.
