im confused as to what this has to do with baseball.....????

confusing you isn't hard

1. They aren't producing anything this prospect season. That is big baseball news.
2. Brian says that topps is getting the MiLB license, pushing tristar out. That is big news as well.

That isn't news. Those are excuses. If someone posts a death about someone famous, their heads on a stick for crying out loud. This has more to do with the MMA section then it does baseball.

Considering that many of the prospectors on this board have been wondering what Razor will be doing for this draft class and next year, this is a perfectly valid location for the OP.

Sure, perhaps it could be partitioned out with clips of the post in a few different forums, but it will get the most traction and visibility here...and there is baseball content.

Let's not get too out of control with the "why is this in the baseball forum" thread.

Glad that you are now mod and admin of this site and make all the decisions.

I can see both sides

On one hand one can say it is baseball news --- "Hey Razor isn't doing baseball"

On the other hand I can see where one says it is an attempt to use a more visible forum to plug non-baseball stuff "Hey Razor isn't doing baseball BUT they are doing x,y,z"

So no need to burn those at the stake who have an opinion either way because both have validity

I feel sorry for people who bought razor baseball. Those cards will go the way of Pinnacle and scoreboard. You already see it in the marketplace, no one wants razor. The celeb product is over done and that doesn't even sell. Can we be honest here, there is no market for these cards, the people who open wax care about athletes, not some pop
star that they have never heard of. MMA will be a winner, on card autos are a must.

I feel sorry for people who don't buy the products Schmidtfan20 buys. He clearly has his finger on the pulse of this hobby, and we are all hopelessly lost without him.

We're not worthy.

(and for the record, I for one have already profitted handsomely on Razor baseball.....)

To say that nobody wants that crap isn't right because based on the fact that it is being bought says otherwise

To each their own
I personally don't collect the non-sport autos (except for poker stuff) or the Japanese Pokemon/Yo-Gi Iguchi (whatever) stuff but somewhere there is a pretty good market

To say it is success because it is sold out also isn't totally right because the argument of "a success for whom" comes into play. Sure a success for Razor, but not a huge success across the board for those who bought.
(ie Oval Office)

The reason Razor can still be profitable is because of the exclusives. If any of the guys who ONLY have Razor baseball both sig series and metal make the bigs, and any collectors want cards of theirs, they have to buy Razor. If any of these guys hit it big before the exclusive contracts are up or are sold, the Razor cards are the ones to have

Wasn't this also the ideology behind Tristar and Just and every other fly by night operation that threw together some products in the past few years?

People just bypassed them and went straight for the licensed autographs. To think Razor will be any different is hopelessly optimistic.

However, I do see potential in this MMA release. I think it's the best move that Razor has made recently, to "give up" on Baseball to a degree.

But you can't go to licensed autographed card if there aren't any. Once the exclusive contracts expire, and they have mainstream cards, you are correct. But some of these guys could hit the majors without any other cards

What you say had validity mreddsox but the problem is that some of the bigger guys hyped in the product haven't produced the big rewards (ie Wieters was the big shot name, then Matusz came along and called up to the Show and some of his Metals sold for less than original price, Razor G Beckhams never did much, etc)

I understand that Matusz had USA and GB had BDP and Wieters exclusive contract stuff came into play BUT some of the bigger names need to produce. One just cannot buy the boxes and boxes and hope that some single-A guy who fits your criteria for big rewards actually comes into play 3 years down the road. Add in the fact that Razor may or may be producing baseball cards 3 years down the road adds another wrinkle into the equation.

I have plenty of Razor sitting at the house so personally I hope you are right but to sit back and hope and hope that the golden ticket is Cutter Dykstra or Brett Devall is also asking a lot.

Which players in the product fit your description for a potential recipe for success?

Assuming that Topps indeed gets the MiLB license, we will see the possibility of Bowman Chrome cards for every single one of Razor's "exclusives" just like Tristar was able to do.

Also, depending on the contract, Topps might not carry over it's individual player contracts to the MiLB license releasing that loophole.

I don't know...but a 2010 Bowman Chrome Jordan Lyles Gold Refractor would look pretty nice in my collection.

Yes, as a whole I completely agree. Buying boxes is certainly a mistake right now imo with this product. Alvarez had USA, Wieters got licensed right away.

Advice:
If possible come up with way so that shady dealers cannot tell based on size/weight if special card in boxed set is GU or auto.
Also, harder push for autos on skilled players and less lineman
