Counting a few COMC pickups, I broke the 700 card mark tonight! I'm at 723 Glaus's right now, with 17 GU. Not bad for a guy I started collecting back in 1999 for literally no reason at all. The vast majority of that 723 came from dime boxes at shows, all in the last 2 and half years since I started collecting again. Next stop, 800!

Weak!

J/K man! :D Great start. Its amazing how quickly you can amass a large chunk of cards.

I have two friends that actually got me back into collecting back in 2006. One of them actually still collects Bagwell cards which is how I kind of came up with the idea in the first place. He has come over a few times to look at my cards and he gets more amazed every time he comes over. He's got some nice cards of his own but he is mostly awed by how many I have and never fails to ask how I had the money to buy so many. He is an up and down type though. He won't buy cards for months and I buy a few every week. But to me, the trick was to buy large lots. I pointed out a few of them (that are oddly enough, still up for sale) and told him that was how I built it up. Back when I was still under 2,000 different, it wasn't uncommon for me to add them in chunks of 20, 30, maybe even 50 at a time. I even won a card from a guy on ebay one day and then he sent me an email saying he had 46 or so GU/patch cards of Bagwell that were all different. I picked them all up and needed every one of them.

It just takes patience and motivation. I think that's the hardest part. Usually, you run out of one or the other. Anyways, good luck on your Glaus collection. And yep, between him and Nomar Garciaparra, they own the dime boxes. I know just about every single on of my Nomar's are from dime boxes. Got some cool stuff too. Just one of those great ball players everyone (not named notjomammasclint) seems to have forgotten about. I do a lot of that with basketball and football too. Basketball memory seems to be especially very shortlived. Lot of great inserts of great players just littering those cheap boxes. That to me is the sole reason for going to a show. Hell, I can find autos and Gu's all day long on ebay for decent prices. I'd rather hit up these dime and quarter boxes and have nice cards of players nobody seems to care about anymore.

Best highlight for me on glaus was meeting him at the braves caravan and getting a sweet spot sig with a ws champ inscription.

Thanks! Funny you mention Nomar, he's another guy I heavily collect, going back to his legendary early days with the Sox. I've got 554 Nomars, mostly from dime boxes. Even here in Red Sox land, where he's still a hero, his stuff can always be found dirt cheap.

@rebelpawn - That's an awesome card! I don't have any Glaus autos yet, but when I get one it'll easily be right up with my favorites.

This might be my favorite Glaus card; it's a great patch, and I bought it on COMC for $1.48, since it was listed as a regular jersey card, not a patch.

I also liked Glaus with the braves...and that patch is sweet.

congrats on 700!

I'm 4 cards shy of being back up to 300 greg maddux cards after my 15 year hiatus (and out of all our sports cards from growing up...the only cards I couldn't find were my greg maddux collection)

not bad starting from scratch!

It took me a while but I finally got to 800! 814, to be exact. As most player collectors experience, I'm running out of the cheaper cards, so it's getting a little harder to add to the collection. I would guess his playing days are over, which means he shouldn't be on many, if any, new cards in the future (unless Topps wants to give him a final card in Update to recap his career stats or whatnot).

While I was putting together all these Glaus cards, my Scott Rolen collection has almost caught up to him. I'm sitting on 777 Rolens, so I might be cracking the 800 mark for him soon!
