It was in an old M&N catalog and IMO those guys are too meticulous to miss something that important...

i'd have to say red sox socks logo on the ebay item looks super fake.

I don't see anything on the red sox logo page on the logo site I trust the most that even comes close to matching the socks on the ebay item:

The logo does look fake, but it is a real Mitchell and Ness jacket and patch.
Google: red sox mitchell and ness jacket
and you'll see a lot of the same M&N jackets with that logo, as well as several other weird Red Sox patches. Maybe the Sox used those goofy socks patches on a few vintage jackets only, which are almost impossible to find pictures of.
But M&N did indeed make those replica jackets, so they're not fake or counterfeit.

I did.

I haven't decided if M&N was trying to create a red stockings logo that legally likely wouldn't violate Boston's Red Sox logos (and you'd have to ask yourself why since I'm sure M&N has been a MLBP licensee for as long as they've been making MLB wear) or if some chinese company produced a knockoff that is sold everywhere and M&N "official" tags have been faked as well to make one think it's a M&N product.

the red stocking logos that come close are a totally red sock (no reinforcing white fabric in the heel/toe) with striping of the wrong design in the top clench band, heel and toe, or a red sock with white reinforced heel and toe with the wrong striping design in the top clench band and no striping in the heel/toe.

I suppose I should probably try to find an hour this weekend to watch the 1967 Red Sox season documentary DVD and see if there is footage or photographs of this fake-looking red stocking design that is shown on the M&N jackets.
