Looking to pick up a few new books and I just wanted to start another thread where we can post any baseball or sports related books you would recommend reading. If you posted in the thread that was lost from a few days ago please reply here again.

One of the greatest documentaries I have ever watched. I like Inning 5, love the 50's and 60's baseball.

Can't wait for the movie.

Excellent book if you love the minutiae of baseball, but it would be a bit much for the casual reader. I have a copy signed by both authors in my signed book collection.

Are they really making it into a movie? I guess it could be dramatic. My first thought was that it wouldn't fit a movie mold, but I thought that about Moneyball as well.

To the OP, I read "Bottom of the 33rd" earlier this year and LOVED it. The stories of the guys who passed through that game are fascinating and this is a very philosophical look into minor league baseball, sports, and bigger issues as well. Recommended to all.

Well, after making my post I looked into it. It was being developed in 2006, and Kevin Pollack was slated to star and make the movie, and was even in St. Louis with Buzz doing research, but I guess it may have fell through, because I couldn't find anything on it since then.

I've read a lot of baseball books, and have a few I haven't caught up to yet. Some of my favorites are:

Anything by Robert Whiting--You Gotta Have Wa (about baseball in Japan) and The Meaning of Ichiro (about current Japnese players coming over to the MLB)

A Baseball Valentine by Fay Vincent--If anyone should write a book about baseball, it's a former commissioner. The story about him, Mickey Mantle, and Joe DiMaggio on Air Force One is just--well, you should find that one. ;)

Catcher in the Wry by Bob Uecker--written back in the 1980's. Funny stuff from a guy who was a mediocre player, surrounded by greats.

Ted Williams by Leigh Montvale--simply a fantastic biography. One of my all-time favorites.

Sixty Feet, Six Inches by Bob Gibson and Reggie Jackson--like sitting in a room and listening to two old farts go on about "Back in my day.." Not everybody's cup of tea, but if you like your baseball like it used to be, it's a fun read.

There are so many other biographies out there, I can't recommend all of them! Pick anything!
