I just can't believe Boston rolls out pitchers like Lackey, Wake, recently Weiland, and wonderful trade deadline pick up Bedard, Aceves is the best #3 and that's not saying much. All this $$ and zero pitching depth. I'll cling to my 04 and 07 memories because this team has almost no chance of going anywhere in the playoffs(if they get in).
If we make the playoffs Buchholz has a good chance of returning, which would be huge.

...will you begin to worry about not making the postseason? You guys have been outplayed in every aspect of the game against the rays this year

Dear Rays fan (literally the one rays fan)-

I'm not worried about the sox making the postseason, they'll be there. they will split the 4 game series with the rays and be just fine. It doesnt really matter about being outplayed, as you put it, by the rays. The rays wont make the playoffs so the sox wont have to worry about it. I do, however, believe that the sox will get swept by the rangers in the first round (even though secretly i hope not).

remember the sox were down to the last inning of a potential sweep by the yankees in 04 and pulled out the series win, so don't count out the red sox just yet.

and yes you can refer to the rays as "us" since your guys only have 10 or 12 fans there anyway.

As a Yankees fan for many years (30+), I have learned to never consider the Red Sox out when it really counts.

They are only out when its mathematically possible.

Once the Yankee's clinch, I am sure they are going to put out the B team again the Rays. Could make things harder for the Sox.

This, I am sure of.

And, I'm not "offended" by fans that say "us". I just don't equate myself to the players that are actually doing this stuff. I also don't like fans that refer to players by their first name in most cases (sure, there are exceptions like Pedro and Manny, because they have common baseball last names). But people (mostly women) that refer to Varitek as "Jason" like they go to his house for dinner every night? Nope. Hate it.

Whatever that says about me, fine. Don't care.

This.

I must say, this thread has made me proud of my fellow logically thinking Yankee fans. We are usually stifled out by the loud mouth, cocky Yanks fan. Thumbs up!

And his post is exactly why I want the Rays to win the wildcard. Anything can happen in the playoffs, I'd rather they don't get the chance.

I'm firmly in the Rays corner on this one but it's still a hell of an uphill climb. That said, the Sox are throwing two stiffs in the doubleheader tomorrow and their offense looks like **** so the whole 'up two with ten' may be a tad overstated.

I'm glad to see a fan of theirs with wishful thinking. Wildcard........perhaps........World Series??? Highly doubtful. But you can still hope.

Well, that's just it. I wanted to see a split, just because I thought the math would be on their side, and they could ride out 10 more days. But now that it's two games, there's nothing that your eyes tell you that says this is a safe lead. They simply are too beat up and are playing too inconsistent to feel good about it.

I watched the game today and the players and fans had DOOM all over them. Was it just me?
I've never seen the Fenway crowd so quiet in all the games I have watched them play anyone... clearly worried. Go Rays!

I think it was the fact that Sox fans have grown stale to Wake when he pitches. He's clearly on the downward slope of his career and going against the likes of Price(even though he isn't lights out) has them in a state of shellshock. Youk is resting on the bench and they have had numerous dings and doinks with other players. Beckett seemed to get things back on track a little and if Buchholz can come back, they can make a run. As much as I hate to say it......the Red Sox have kinda become a staple in my post season expectations. I can't stand em yet their playoff games are always interesting and its good baseball.

Not really a fan of them, just think in a playoff series they would be hard to put out.I know they have had trouble with the Rangers and they are missing Clay.Just have a feeling they are going to the series!
