Looking at the Red Sox depth, especially in the outfield, what do you think their plans for the future lineup/outfield? I mean will Bay and Drew stay there for 3+ years? They have Jacoby already there and Reddick in the minors. They also have Kalish who is off to a good start hitting .292 with 1 HR and 8 SB. Also they have Chris Carter who can play OF and 1B correct?

Bay is a FA after this season, but I have to believe the sox will sign him longterm. That basically leaves the question of RF. Assuming Drew stays healthy which is a big if, i think the sox will try to resign him for much less money than his current contract. If he leaves, the sox have Reddick and Kalish in the minors, and they have shown they will spend the $ on an outfielder if necessary

so will kalish/carter be trade bait?

maybe for starting pitching?

I agree Bay signs long term either near the end of the season or shortly after the season ends but I think they let Drew walk whenever his contract is up. they have too much outfield talent in the minors to gamble with Drew's health issues.

There starting pitching depth is all set. I can see the Red Sox trading Buchholz, Reddick, and two other prospects (Kalish, Almanzar, Bard, Pimentel) for a shortstop next off season. Hanley Ramirez anyone??

No way in hell the Marlins trade Hanley.

For now, probably not. The sox have a lot of depth at SP. They have 0 depth at catcher. I expect them to need a corner IF relatively soon because Lowell is 35 with a bad hip. Youkilis could always move to 3rd if Anderson is ready which i believe he will be. The sox look to have a solid foundation for the next 5+ years.

Catcher: Only glaring hole
1B: Youkilis/Anderson
2B: Pedroia
SS: Lowrie
3B: Youkilis/??
LF: Bay/Reddick/Kalish/FA
CF: Ellsbury
RF: Reddick/Carter/Kalish/FA

SP1: Lester
SP2: Beckett
SP3: Matsuzaka
SP4: Wakefield/Bowden/Buchholz/Masterson
SP5: Bowden/Buchholz/Masterson

Why not? There was talk in the off season that the Marlins want to shed payroll. With Hanleys salary increasing and the talent the Sox can send back, you have to believe there will be some discussion. Plus, you and I both know the Sox need a shortstop and what better way to add a bat next off season and grab one of the best players in the game. No one thought that Josh Beckett was going to be traded and low and behold the Marlins dealt him. Anythings possible when dealing with the Florida Marlins.

Drew is not going to be resigned when his deal is up. I see the Sox making a trade for Mauer.

I agree on both points, however i see the sox waiting until Mauer is a FA in two years I believe, but I wouldn't be surprised at all if they made a move for him this offseason instead.

I don't see mauer leaving the twins, but i can see hanley leaving florida

$ talks and there is no doubt the sox will have more to offer Mauer. I can easily see the Twins moving Mauer in the offseason for a stud SP prospect and a decent position prospect.

Because they just resigned him to a VERY reasonable contract for one of the top players in the game. There was talks of the Red Sox wanting Ramirez but no talks of the Marlins wanting to move Ramirez. I think the Marlins would want far more than the Red Sox or any other team would be willing to give up.

Sure Beckett got traded but the Marlins got to move the Lowell contract too, and Hanley isn't making anywhere near that amount. Also, the Red Sox don't have anyone like Hanley right now to send back.

Lars, Buchholz, Bowden, Reddick and Kalish and you can't find a package similar to what Hanley was? I'd say it COULD happen but probably won't.
