I'm planning on sending in a shipment to BGS in the next day or two (are there any specials going?) and am trying to determine what to send.

Was hoping for opinions on a couple of things:
I have a whole bunch of Crawford Topps Traded Auto's from back before they graded the signature. I had thought that over time people would pay more for the old holders because the assumption seems to be that BGS has eased up their standards a little, but to this point the ones without an auto grade don't do as well as those with.

1. My question is whether it is worth it to send the bunch of those in to have them relooked at and the autograph graded?

2. What is the cheapest way to ship maybe 10 cards to Beckett with $5000 or so insurance?

If using the USPS, registered shipping will be the cheapest way to insure $5000 worth of cards.

Any idea if that's cheaper than UPS, FedEx etc?

You may want to contact BGS on this, but I was under the assumption they would do the autograph grade for the $2 and recase it for free with the same grades. Their answer on this might make a huge difference in what you decide. If you feel you can get better grades on the some of the cards, I would crack them and send them raw however. Good Luck!

There may be some I'd consider paying the extra to regrade, but this would be great. I have to email them. (Unless someone here can confirm.) I am considering the regrading because I do feel the older cards were looked at more strictly. Then it becomes a question of cracking and resubmitting or simply sending them in the cases. That way there's no risk of getting damaged or a lower grade.

Thanks for the help!!

$5k for 10 cards? The flips aren't really gold ya know.
:)

I may be off. The value of the cards I'm sending may actually be closer to $6000, will have to see.

Anyone have any opinions on the the questions?

I would only send back the ones you know will get a 10 for autograph grade. That said, autograph grade is the single lamest thing that BGS offers and I don't buy into it at all considering a BGS 10 autograph can fade to oblivion over time and still be a 10.

Cheapest way to ship it wait for BGS to be near you and sub that way. USPS, FEDEX and UPS will all be pricey for that kind of insurance.

I agree on the 10 auto's, it's a bit of a joke but for resale it seems to be worthwhile.

I'd love to wait for Beckett to come around, but I'd like to move forward with some selling and they are not scheduled to come my way for a long time.

I had some success recently with regrading a Kobe Byrant Topps Chrome RC BGS 8.5 in an old case.
Broke it out and resubmitted and it came back a BGS 9
