I know that we all do it and there is nothing wrong with it.

But in today's mail my wife got some stuff from a friend of hers who is a Pulitzer Prize winning novelist.

I opened the package and all the sender did was turn the envelope inside out.

It made me laugh as I sometimes feel cheap when I reuse a padded mailer!

Yeah, Ralph. I see how you get that:

"Hi, I know I just charged you $3 S&H... I like to justify that price by saying how I have to 'buy materials to ship.' That said -- enjoy the reused envelope!"

It's one thing to reuse one for when you make a sale, but when I am trading, why not re-use a bubble mailer? I have a box or two of used buble mailers ready to ship stuff to other members..

As long as it's protected when I send it to another member during a trade, who cares if it's a new or old bubble mailer.. Anyone that has traded with me knows I ship items as I want them shipped to me..

When it's for a trade, that's fine - I agree. When you pay for shipping and handling, a reused bubble mailer is kind of like a PWE. Sure, the card may get to you in perfect condition, but that's a chance that didn't have to happen.

What's the difference between making a sale and trading when re-using a bubble envelope. All you are paying for is the card in the condition you purchased it in, nothing else. Not a toploader, not a penny sleeve, not any team bags or card board, and not the envelope it is sent in. You don't pay for the plastic bags at Wal-Mart when you go to pick up a new video game or grocery shop.

I reuse bubble mailers all the time and I received used bubble mailers all the time with my purchases. I've actually received brand new bubble mailers in worse condition that used ones b/c of how they were handled. It's used to protect the card. Are you wanting to keep the bubble mailer for memories? Certainly not to REUSE it, right? I really can't see how it bothers people so much. You got the card(s) you wanted in the condition you expected, nothing else should matter when it comes to what it came in.

Now if the seller flat out tries to justify his enormous shipping charge with buying new supplies and then sends you a mangled mailer - I could see how one would be upset.

A card in a used bubble mailer and a card in a brand new bubble mailer has the SAME EXACT chance of getting ruined in transit. Not sure where you could see any difference in that.

I provide free shipping for all of my eBay sales. What would your complaint be with me using a recycled/used bubble mailer then?

The difference to me is that I'm paying for S&H to "cover materials". If I pay S&H over the price of the stamp and get a reused envelope, I'm taking away a star.

If I give you free shipping and handling and go green by not wasting a new envelope when a reused one will do just fine, can I get an extra star?

Or Adam, how about sellers that charge exactly what it costs to ship a package? do you take a star off for them too?

Sorry, almost every package i get lately the shipping is about the same as they are charging. i am not going to punish sellers being squeezed for every penny if i get my goods in the condition i expect.

I punish sellers for late shipping and i mean 3+ weeks and also for packages i receive with postage due.

That's an interesting concept. I'm going the opposite route. From now on when I get a new bubble mailer I'm going to knock a star or two off. My feedback will say "Reduce, Reuse, Recycle." I'm working on reducing my carbon footprint, and this seems like an easy way to help others work on reducing theirs!

Thanks for the awesome idea!

Re-using bubble envelopes is really tacky. I refuse to do it, lacks class, and professionalism in selling.

And to add I charge actually what it cost to ship the package, and sometimes I even make it free. So I will reuse a mailer for everything, I ship every time. So note it as to not buy or trade from me if this is what you dislike.

If you provide free shipping, ship it to me in the anal cavity of an elephant for all I care. If it makes to to me just fine, awesome! I'll wait for the sucker to crap it out. If you charge me for S&H to "cover materials" then I expect my cost to go towards covering material cost and shipping charges. I'm not paying S&H for you to make an extra buck or to pay your gas. Full stars ratings, to me, is for excellent service - not for playing par for the course. If you're a quick shipping with fair shipping for the type of shipping I receive then you'll receive 5 stars. Charge me $3.50 for a reused envelope and ~$1 shipping then you're gonna get 4.

Bang on me all you want, but I don't like rewarding people for scraping by with the minimum they can do to get through a transaction successfully.
