I wouldn't be upset as a Mets fan that they aren't resigning him. The upsetting part is that there was no reason for them to keep him through the deadline this past year. Get something. You have to think they could have gotten something more than what a compensation pick would be.

This is very true about Reyes. I say keep Wright and see if he can hit in the new park. People want to see somebody. I aint waiting in line for an auto of Angel Pagan.

Why wait in line when you can buy a Topps Certified Pagan auto for $1? ;)

After the Bernie Madoff scandal, Mets ownership didn't have the money to pay Reyes, so this is inevitable. They could have traded him, but likely wouldn't be able to take anyone making a decent salary in return. Trading Reyes would have reduced the Mets already meager ticket sales and TV ratings, which given their fragile financial situation, was not a viable option.

I am also happy for the Marlins fans and the fact that they look to contend in that division. That being said I believe Pujols AND Reyes are both completely wrong for that franchise.

Why they aren't making a more aggressive push for Cespedes is beyond me. The fit there seems virtually perfect.

The GM should have said just that, or explain why they need to trade him. They could have received good prospects who aren't being paid much. While telling the fans that they don't have the money to resign him, so they are building for the future. The season is basically done by the trading deadline anyway for teams dealing players away.

as a Mets fan, i do not buy the Madoff took our money scheme.

ive never been a huge Reyes backer, but as a Mets fan since 1978, it saddens me that The Mets have never had a home grown player stay their entire career with The Mets and go on to The HOF

As of this writing, the Greatest Met of All Time (grown and never left) is Ed Kranepool.

You'd have to wait in line behind Topps. They LOVE him!!![/quote:2vzpix2h]

they actually need to put reyes at 3rd to take pressure off of hanley and get a lot more left side infield coverage.
reyes had 16 triples on july 21 and everyone over at baseball reference was saying he would get 30 for the first time since the turn of the century.
he had no more triples the rest of the year. first, trying to save his job and play through an inury, then, he hurt himself again (i saw it) and then still not telling until it was too late. i would rather see pujols writhe on the ground acting like a baby than someone jeopardize the teams goals for selfish ones.

What makes you think they aren't?

I've heard that they are. In fact, to my point about needing a 3b and a CF, if they add Reyes and Cespedes, that might be the answer to each hole.

if they sign reyes, pujols is out of the question for budgetary reasons. they reportedly had 23 mil a year to spend.
they used albert to get reyes if it goes down.

That would be heck of a haul. Especially if they can Add Buehrle as well

If he doesn't re sign w mets, its yet another major goof by that team.

"No no don't trade him during season bc hes hurt. Lets wait until we lose him to fa and get an 18 yr old hs draft pick instead of a good mlber and top prospect."

Who said they weren't, but they certainly haven't been mentioned in the first round of rumors for Cespedes. It certainly hasn't been aggressive. I would have a difficult time believing they would haul-in Cespedes, Pujols, Reyes, and Buehrle (much less Pujols and Reyes). I would make my top priority Cespedes in their case as you could market the heck out of his nationality there. It's probably less risk than Reyes as well.
