This will sound odd. But, I think Rice getting in actually hurts Big Mac's chances. I think it shows that some writers went back and reevaluated certain players' careers in light of the steroids fiasco. Now that Rice has been enshrined, hopefully writers will wise up and vote in Dawson now.

Just like I've been saying all along, no statistic can be the true measure of greatness. Rice had a great carear with excellent numbers, but more so, he was a dominant figure for his generation and a 'face of the game' to Boston and the world. When you coupple his carear performance and recognition from fans and historians alike, he was still a maybe. But close enough to warrent inception to thoes with the keys who gave him the nod.

This is a proud day for me and my belief in the Hall, as it's truely a 'Hall of Fame' today and not just a hall of statistics..

Why is everybody so pissed about Rice getting in? It doesn't mean Dawson or Mattingly won't get in. There aren't a certain number of spots in the Hall and he just stole one. He was a good player and leader on good teams and this was his last chance to get in. Some voters decided he deserved to get in and people should be happy for him. It's not like he did anything personal to any of you haters. As far as him being garbage and Red Sox being garbage, sounds a little childish to me.

Fenway typically hurts right hand hitters power since the wall is so high- more singles and doubles on line drives.

Lefties with opposite field power thrive at Fenway- Fred Lynn, Boggs, Mo Vaughn.

Fred Lynn would be in the Hall of Fame discussion had he stayed in Boston his entire career (they never should have traded him :twisted: )

No way man. Rice was a dominant in a dead ball era. His numbers are better then Mattinglys. Coulda , woulda , shoulda if mattingly never hurt his back, well he did. Rice deserved to be in. Mattingly is the terrell davis of baseball, definately a hall of famer but career got cut short before he could put a bigger resume together.

He was most certainly one of the most feared hitters of the late 70's - early 80's.
