Only the 3rd player age 20 or younger to win 10 games in the majors over the last 22 years (Felix Hernandez in 2006, Dwight Gooden in 1984 and 1985).

The way I see it, there are guys like Tommy Hanson who are having impressive rookie seasons at age 23. He is going to be a very good pitcher for years.

But Porcello is also having an impressive rookie season, at age 20. By the time he is 23, he will probably already have 30-50 wins under his belt. With three more years of Major League experience at age 23 than a guy like Hanson who is tough, I can only imagine how dominant Porcello is going to be.

Bob Feller had 55 MLB wins under his belt before he turned 21.

He had 5 MLB victories before he turned 18.

He retired with "only" 266 wins after losing 3 prime seasons to World War II.

If Porcello is anything close to Bob Feller I will be happy ;).

I know you said "the lst 22 years" but 'Dave Rozema in 1977' is 30+ years ago...

Dwight Gooden won 17 games as a 19 yr old(1984) and 24 games at the ripe old age of 20(1985).

AMEN! :)

Man, i miss those days ::sigh::

Watching Gooden pitch in 1985 was as close to "Automatic Win" as ive ever felt as a Mets fan

Tell me about it!

The only other time(s) I felt tht way watching sports was in Mike Tysons early days, and when the Bulls would meet the knicks in the play offs in the 90's. All were automatic W's.

Edited, I misread the article, as it states that rozema was the last Tiger to achieve the feat, not one of the three of the last 22 years.

I'd love to see him get to 15 wins this year, but we'll see how much they let him pitch. What I'd really like is for him to have a World Series ring and the Rookie of the Year Award, but expecting both of these right now might be pushing it

Few were, and few will be.

Feller may be one of the most overlooked pitchers in history simply due to the timing of World War II. But seriously, to think about a kid who just finished his junior year in high school to leave Iowa and pitch for the Cleveland Indians during the summer...and then back to high school for his senior year is amazing.

He struck out 17 MLB hitters at 17. That's insane.

Alex Aliva made his MLB debut today as the Tigers catcher making the combined age of the Tigers battery 42 years old. I have to give credit to Detroit Weblog for that tidbit of info which I thought was pretty neat.
