I really like that he didn't get flustered after giving up a home run.

Alex

That home run was the only bad pitch he threw today. He hung a fat curve ball right in the middle of the plate. The only times he has been hurt in his two starts this year is when he hung his curve ball.

Another guy mentioned the quick ground ball outs that Porcello is getting. Not only does it result in quick outs, but the double play ground outs certainly helps him as well. It's going to be a treat watching him pitch this year.

No threads because sucked his first start
So for him to pitch good game today was just like oh well he is still 1-1 LOL

you obviously didnt watch his first start, because he actually pitched very good

Agreed. His first game he pitched well except he hung two curve balls again for home runs. The Blue Jays also hit a few other balls hard that were between the letters and the waste. Porcello had some of these high pitches today as well but the Mariners never really hit those pitches hard today.

Generally speaking, the Tigers have been getting solid pitching performances this year. Verlander has pitched well except every game he gets in trouble with one really bad inning - and bad defense has usually been the culprit there. Edwin Jackson has been very very solid as has Galarraga. Miner has not been good but he is streaky. Miner really depends on his off speed pitches more so than other pitchers to be effective. Once the weather gets better and he can grip the ball better, he will improve. And I still hold out hope for Bonderman.

I have no doubt whatsoever that the Tigers improved pitching is due to their new pitching coach, Rick Knapp. He was the Twins minor league pitching coach last year. I have noticed the Tigers pitchers pounding the plate more with strikes this year and making the other team beat them. They are trying to make that perfect pitch like they have been the last two years.

Last but not least, the Tigers pitchers are being helped by the vastly improved defense on the left side of the infield.

Has anyone seen sportscenter or baseball tonight today? I've been watching highlights on ESPN and ESPN News waiting to see what they have to say about Porcello and I haven't heard a word about the Tigers/Mariners game yet. Anyone see a highlight for this game?

I've noticed it too. It sure does seem like they are throwing more strikes. Last year everyone was pitching so scared. Everyone was trying to pitch near the plate, but never over it. Of course it's also what has gotten Verlander in trouble this year in big innings. He pitches so well at first, and then guys jump all over his pitches later in the game knowing that they are getting a first pitch strike.

Overall, I can't complain. They are pitching 1000 times better this year as a staff. Well worth the pitching coach change so far at least.

Anyone?

I watched the same highlights over and over and over again on ESPN all night and didn't see a single thing about Porcello or this game. Kinda disappointed.

It's Detroit and Seattle. Sadly ESPN doesn't cover them anymore.

MLB network is probably a better bet.

Probably because it's boring to watch an efficient pitcher. Unless there are a lot of strikeouts, no one wants to see routine outs.
