So I haven't been able to find my transaction yet. I'm trying to find how much I paid for certain cards, especially the platinum gold. In order to complete the Nifty Fifty and 03 FOTG cards (minus autos) some I over paid on, some I got really cheap.

So I followed up on trying to get the scan of the Rickey Crusade, and this is the unfortunate answer I was given:

He has sent me a scan previously, but he is a very private collector and told me specifically to not share the pic and I won't share it because of that. I am sorry, I am trying to locate the other ones and may be able to, if I can I will shoot you a pic.

There's something fishy going on there. I could be wrong, but considering none of us (or any of the other hardcore 90's collectors), seem to have heard of even the existence of a Rickey, it seems a bit odd. If he's so private, why even mention the existence of the card? There's not much difference between that and sending a scan. It's not like the scan would be a picture of the owner holding it :)

The guy I was talking to is not in possession of the card, it's another collector. He contacted me via Ebay to see if I had any of the Crusades, and he swears up and down that he has seen the scan of the Rickey.

Not sure if the B.S. flag should be raised, I just don't know!

He could just be "mis-remembering," or there really could be a Rickey out there. I'm actually hoping there isn't, as that would just be another card I'll never get my hands on, lol!

I know what you mean - I recently found out that the player I collect has between 6 and 9 crusades. I was much more content when I thought all I needed was the Red/25 :) Maybe I can just forget I learned of these?

Personally, I am content with knowing I'll never own one, but... I wanna see a Rickey Crusade!! A pic would be fine...

I'm calling BS. If the card does exist, which I highly highly doubt, someone would have known about it by now. I could see me not knowing about a card, but if Brad and Dave have never heard of it either, and no one else that collects the player has seen/heard of it, then I say no dice. Why say you have it if you won't show proof?

Well... the guy saying it exists doesn't actually own the card. The guy (A) who owns it told the other guy (B) about it, and even showed him a pic. So A owns it, B has seen it and is telling about its existance. Guy B won't show the pic that guy A gave him, because guy A doesn't want anybody to know he has it, exept for guy B of course. Or something. I don't see how showing the pic would tell us who owns it though.

I think it could exist and none of us know about it. It's backdoored and limited to only a few copies. If a guy bought them from the person who backdoored them and then just kept them to himself forever, very few people would know the cards were made. A few people who worked at Donruss back then, the guy who backdoored them, and the guy who bought them. I'm not saying they exist, I can just see how they might and yet none of us ever knew...

I understand but what's the point in this: "I have this card that is extremely rare and I'll show you, but you can't show anyone else" ? That's the equivalent of me owning a Carrera, leaving it in storage and never driving it or showing anyone else. All hearsay.

I tried to assure him that I only was going to show the fellow Henderson collectors, but it didnt matter. I really dont see the point of keeping it a secret either, but to each his own....

Looks like Rickey has at least 50 cards in Sportkings Series E. Nine 1/1's and the rest are numbered 10 or higher

All will be unlicensed, and all will suck.

JMO. :D I hate Sportkings.

Actually, they are all licensed by Rickey Henderson himself. Not some umbrella like the MLB, but the actual person who's face appears on the cards. ;)

I like that they are still making cards as well, but I hate that logos cant be used. They look like 80-90's cereal or bakery type cards that had blank uniforms. Like the design of them, but without logos look very cheap and amateurish.

Thanks for posting that Neil! I was going to myself... it's an exciting thread because you can vote for two people. So even if you think that Rickey was better than Teddy Ballgame, you vote for both, and nobody will think that you think that. How awesome is that?

The awesome thing about MLB's umbrella....

LOGOS!!!

I'm with Brian... I think they look like the Jumbo sunflower seed cards. Crappy and logoless.

I like them all. Ryan, what do you think of the Panini cards that are out now?

I think Panini is doing terrible work with some of my favorite sets. I mean, you can have good looking cards without an MLB license. If you would like some good examples, check ebay for 2008 Prime Cuts. I know they got in trouble for pushing the envelope on some cards, like this one...

(they altered the T a wee bit, but not enough)

...but there are lots of perfect examples of what I'm talking about. Like this guy:

See where they airbrushed the logos off of his hat and uni? Me neither, they picked an awesome pic. Like this one:

IMO, they shouldn't look like this one:

And hey, maybe Jumbo couldn't find/use a better pic, or maybe it was just 1990 and they didn't realize how hideous the card would look. But c'mon fellas....

It's 2012. It's a painting. They could have put him in any pose they wanted. They could have even made it look like Rickey Henderson. I'm just sayin'... I understand why people would want to add them to their collections, and I also understand that some people might find the card attractive. I'm not trying to knock those people. Just the ones who made the card. :p And hey Brad, there's an awesome pic for ya, much better quality than the one cropped from the sell sheet. Yeah, I've been keeping up with the blog. Great work!

Oh yeah, I forgot to say... when you're done looking at the 2008 Prime Cuts on ebay, and noticing how hard to tried to hide the fact that they didn't have a license... change your search to 2012 Prime Cuts. They gave up on trying.
