Sorry to hear man. I feel the same about the newer cards. Kind of lost the appeal. I've been looking for 90's inserts lately. Also been thinking more along lines of collectibles or memorabilia instead of cards.

Hi guys, I need your advice on something regarding my Rickey Henderson collection. I have seriously been considering stopping my collection and try to sell everything. It does not seem to be fun for me anymore and as every year passes I see more and more crap come out with regard to cards. Back in the day you had a good chance of collecting most cards in a set and it was somewhat affordable. Now there is a version for every color of the rainbow and an autographed version to boot and this XXXX is getting so expensive. Any card I really need in my collection too are the hard to find inserts which are also getting costly. I also have a new girl and wife reminds me of the damn budget and the space I am taking up.

Any knowledge or advice on selling everything at once? I'm hesitant to sell it in pieces because it will just take so much time. I honestly think everything in bulk I would be happy with $7000-$8000 and know that I could get considerably more if I sold everything one by one but not sure if I want to go through with that.

I would obviously be in contact with some of you on here if I ended up selling pieces.

John, I feel you man. Even though I have been on a buying spree lately, I struggle with this decision also. It is very hard for me to let go, even though I know I should. I have been collecting him for 25 years now and am not sure how I would feel if I sold everything. I agree that the fun has been taken from hobby. Too much new and expensive stuff. I always though it would end at some point, but it doesnt look that way. Being I am a collector at heart, I know I would collect something else eventually. I have thought about taking up fishing as a replacement aslo. That said, let me know what you plan on doing, I would be interested. God I'm pathetic. LOL!!

Do you think you could enjoy collecting a different way? Meaning a max price per card you'd go after or only do a certain segment (base/parallels/autos etc)? Or only collect ones that appeal to you? What about going through what you have and down sizing what you don't "like" and reusing that $ towards new ones you do. As a Clark collector I struggle with it too, when you go Supercollector status and you feel you need everything it's hard to stop. Anyway maybe there's a happy medium with you collecting.

**with that said if you decide to sell everything lmk

I ran into this realization years ago with my Ozzie collection. Luckily I have a sentimental attachment to cards issued during his playing years so it wasn't too difficult for me to just cut myself off of cards issued after 1996. I would recommend this line of thinking if you need or want to cut back. It is still fun and incredibly fulfilling to add old cards to the collection. You just don't get to do it as often. Good luck either way.

I tried to cut my collection off at 2010, but I failed at it. That was for cards only. I still love the oddball better than the cards. Not enough to sell off cards though.

Guess I'll chime in on the subject myself too.

I've been struggling with the new releases since 2009. I lost interest in collecting new items that didn't appeal to me. I love the older half of my collection, and really just wanted to focus on finishing of the few older ones I don't have, and start trying to work through 1997-2001. 2005 is really about my cutoff.... After that, I just don't have the passion like I did as a kid to try and get them all. Those hopes were crushed long ago. I couldn't keep pushing the money out of my wallet "just because" anymore...

The thought of selling has probably crossed all of our minds at one time or another. Parting them out would be an arduous task. Selling as a collection, you'll take the monetary hit, but you may make another collector very happy. Could you live with yourself if you let all that hard work go to someone else? If you can, and getting some of your investment back appeals to you, go for it!

And another post......seller DuckyBoy or similar has huge hoard of Rickey Star sets and such. I have the 88-89 Nova Promo and set, but he has 2 of each listed. Says one is matte finish and one is glossy. Anyone else ever heard/seen of both finishes? I would assume glossy is rarer? Going to check what I have.

***edit***

I believe I have the matte finish. It looks glossy but doesn't feel glossy. Anyone else check theirs? I thought there were 100 of these cards? Could it be 50 matte and 50 glossy?

Finally snagged a 98 Stadium Club First Day Issue #/200 for a BIN of $20. Never saw the card, except the one on Daves' site. Does anyone else have this? For a card numbered to 200, it seems very elusive.

Picked this up at a card show a couple years ago and just found it in a box I was going through. Figured one of you guys might be interested in it. Whoever claims it first can have it.

Dan

EDIT: That was quick, claimed already
