I was just underbidder on a Dodger auto card a day or two ago. Damn. Who knows how high the high bidder was willing to go, but when you lose, it always feels like it was only by the minimum increment beyond your bid. It went for about $115. /100. Luckily I do already have a Dodger certified auto, my only Henderson certified auto in fact. They are sure to spike hard now. Surprising to hear about his death for sure. Only 65.

The “Man-cave of Steal” is not as bright today as I continue to process the unthinkable. Frankly, it’s difficult to be in the space at this moment. That said, I will continue to always shine the light brightly on Rickey and his amazing accomplishments. In a way, I feel like it’s my purpose in the hobby. After all these years of Rickey giving us all so much joy, it’s our turn to carry his legacy forward for years to come! I’ve been telling folks all day that the greatest thing Rickey gave us was togetherness and it’s the best part of our collections over any item in my opinion. We will all process this differently and over an undefined period of time, just know, I am thinking about each of you, the Henderson family and baseball as a whole! [emoji3064][emoji172][emoji238]

Always good to see people trying to profiteer from the death of a famous person.

Rickey Henderson All Star RIP
These are very rare not distributed to the market. MLB decided not to issue any new licenses that year because of market saturation. These are pristine printed front and back.
I am asking 350.00. Please email me if interested.

Rumor has it this was his reaction to learning Jimmy Carter is still alive and he can't sell his stash. ;)

Of course there's only one king of profiteering on death:

Yeah, no sh*t. I'm really pissed at this guy @dhert.

Rickey's dead? I have some rare Rickey cards? I know what I'm gonna do....pimp those cards on two separate threads on FCB! Yeah, that'll work.

Good on you, @dhert.

He even hit us with the tree fiddy price tag, diabolical! :ROFLMAO: For a card that couldn't get licensed in an era with a jillion companies, am I missing something?

Back on the topic of Rickey, his career WAR was 111. The guy above him on the list is Lou Gehrig and below him is Mel Ott... people don't realize how amazing he is, you could subtract every single steal from his career and he would still be a first ballot HOFer. Retired with the most walks in MLB history. Retired with the most runs (and still has it) best OBP by a right handed hitter of all time. More than just a good baserunner!

This really ends the era of huge personalities in MLB too. The gap between someone like Rickey Henderson and Mike Trout is astounding.

I was shocked to hear the news of his passing yesterday and immediately thought of this thread and all the excellent content you have shared over the years. My condolences to his fans, guy was a lot of fun to watch on and off the field.

I am still in shock and saddened by the news. I still wish it wasn't true. I grew up a Phillies fan, and all Philly sports - the 1980 Phillies was my childhood. I never ever rooted for any opposing player ever... except Rickey. I never rooted for a Yankee, except Rickey. I never rooted for a Met, except Rickey. I definitely didn't root for any 1993 Blue Jays going against my Phillies...except Rickey. There was always something amazing about him, something electric. You never knew what he was going to do, and he never let you down. And his smile and style were unparalleled. He was a true 1-of-1 the likes of we'll never see again. I am always in awe of the other Rickey collectors' collections and I've seen plenty over the years. He is a part of my fabric, as he's been my favorite sports player for over 40 years of my life. It sounds dramatic, but a piece of me has died too. I will miss him, but as Kent said I am grateful to have met so many super collectors and always enjoy sharing in their stories as they feel like an extension of me. Weird to type, especially so close to his birthday. Rest in Peace King. 🥺
