It appears that 2009 will come and go with the Mets whimpering in the corner. The good thing is, with the Nationals in the division, they really can't finish worse than 4th (but if anyone could finish beneath the Nationals, it would be the Mets). What do you think the Mets need to do first to change the direction of the franchise?

I think they should trade away one of their core players and get some much needed MLB-ready young players (both pitchers and position players) in return. I think David Wright would net them a HUGE return. I do not see them doing this, but I think it would be in their best interest to do so.

All of the above

Manuel is a bumbling idiot...good guy but he needs to go.Omar hasnt done a good job...besides the Johan deal he hasnt done anything right. The Wilpons arent willing to spend money right now...they have no control over this team. And finally...the team doesnt play well together, there are a lot of chemistry problems that need to be worked out.

Keep Reyes and Wright. Let Delgado walk. Make sure Castillo never touches another Mets uniform. Trade Beltran in the offseason for a 1B, 2B, LF, or SP. The bullpen should be pretty solid for the next few years. If Bay doesn't sign with the Red Sox, I would hope the Mets throw a ton of money at him if they could trade Beltran away.

A lineup like this doesn't sound too bad to me.

1. Reyes (SS)
2. Murphy (1B)
3. Wright (3B)
4. Whoever Beltran is traded for (LF)
5. Francoeur (RF)
6. Fernando Martinez (CF)
7. Placido Polanco (2B)- Free agent after this season
8. Santos/Schneider (C)

Fernando Martinez isnt ready to be an everyday major leaguer.
Are there any free agent catchers they can go after next season?
