I'm Really surprised he got thru waivers this time.

I know he's been very disappointing the last season and a half, but he's a steal in this deal with a huge upside. Maybe all those seasoned veterans, playing for a job and being in the competition for post-season will kick-start his bat.

And I think the Jake deal and this potential steal make the Sox the favorites in the division for next year too.

He didn't get through waivers, the Sox claimed him.

I LOVE this move for the sox....

It will help them get younger, with contreras and colon gone next year, along with likely either Thome or Konerko (one of their contracts will pay for rios).

Calling it genius is a wee bit hyperbolic, I believe. It's unlikely that Rios will play as a $10MM/year guy for the next half-decade. And even if he does, they simply get fair value for him. Kinda like a free agent signing. I think it could be good in the short term. Rios tends to get motivated in bursts. I'm sure he'll get hot for the next six weeks or so.

To be honest, I think it's more likely that the Rios and Peavy acquisitions could end up costing Williams his job in the next 3 or so years.

Rios will play almost everyday due to the amount they are paying him
Pods/Carlos Q will rotate based on matchup
Almost guarantees that either Thome or Dye = gone next year
(It will be either Dye or Thome at DH in 2010)

Chicago has the best team in the central to me. I think people are already forgetting that Jake Peavy will be back in September for them

Good luck to Peavy away from Petco.... Tigers take the central no doubt about it to me .

IF the Jays re-invest the money wisely, I really like this deal. We have Snider to fill his spot, or Lind and Snider can DH.

Thats $15 million off the books next year, with Rolen gone. Find me a big bat, hopefully a third baseman and I like the deal.

Let's blame not having the cash to compete with the Yanks/Sox BOOOO HOOO... let's first get a GM that works with a full deck and is not missing a few bricks.

Oh and we either need a new owner or MLB might just as well take this team and move it far from here, Rogers has no need for baseball and really could care less if we finished with 100+ loses.... we need a real owner not some corporate cheapskates.

As all the jays fans said, IF they put some of that $$$ into re-upping Halladay, I love this move. I guess we wont find this out until next year though.

Realistically, sure Rios has talent. You dont get to where he is without it.

But, the White Sox just took on a 28y/o, $10 million a year player who has never hit 25 HRs, 90 RBI, and only once hit .300.
