Such sad news. I never really had much conversation with him, but everything that I saw, he seemed like a stand up guy with a real heart for collecting. We definitely need more people like him in the hobby.

Anyone know, was he still collecting recently? For some reason I had it in my mind that he was not. Does anyone know if he still had everything?

it is a sad reality of collections of any type. They last only as long as we do, unless there is someone to pass them along to, otherwise they tend to get split apart.

It's also nice to see a community of people who I am guessing were mostly folks he never met in person, remembering him so fondly. We should all strive to leave that type of impression when we are gone.
He was still collecting Griffey as I recently sold him some 2004 UD Breakey Uncommons & Super Rare that he did not have. My last email with him was March 12th. His death has really upset me.

Sad to hear this news. He always had a great sense of humor. He will be missed here. :(

Loved seeing him wear his Freedom Cardboard shirt on this obituary. That's awesome. Always hurts to lose the folks that made the trip here from the Beckett boards so many years ago... and made this forum special.

This is sad news. I never traded with him, but I recall him being very generous and sending fun notes to members’ kids. He will be missed. RIP, MagicPapa

I don’t reply much (if at all), but I have lurked for years. Magicpapa was the reason I joined FCB. His collection goes without saying, but I found his knowledge and insight about 90s Griffey and all the various 90s sets was astounding. Very sad to hear about his passing. RIP

Absolutely shocking. @MojoDan let me know about this. Even being from the same state, I don't recall tons of interaction between Michael and I, but the curio cabinet and just the wealth of knowledge he had, plus the joy & live the hobby brought him and he was gracious enough to share with us ...that's what I'll remember.

Rest east, Magicpapa.

Hi all,

My name is Melissa, and I am Mike's aka Magicpapa's daughter.

I wanted to express my condolences to everyone here that knew my Dad whether it be by emails/chats, posts, trades, or just by his witty banter than may have had you scratching your head a time or two trying to figure out where exactly he was going. 😉🤣

I have read so many of your heartfelt comments about the kind of guy my Dad was and what he meant to you and this community. Each post has truly touched me and has brought a smile to my face during one of the absolute darkest, heart wrenching, and exhausting times in my life. The loss of a parent is very difficult, but even more so when that parent was truly "magical".

Thank you all for your kind words about my Dad. Thank you for being a friend to him. Thank you for allowing him to bring joy and generosity to your group; he truly did love to make others happy!

Anyone that wishes to post on the tribute wall of his obituary is encouraged to do so. I know it would mean so much to the rest of the family to see how many lives he touched over the years that most of us don't know about. And, for the record, I intentionally chose that photo, as it captured many things he loved: baseball, this group, and Peanuts. ❤️ That was an amazing day spent with my Dad, along with my husband and son at the All Star Fan Fest in Minneapolis, MN.

Again, thank you all! ❤️

RIP Magic. A real asset to the boards. Liked and admired by everyone.

I still remember someone spearheading a project where board members across the country signed playing card Jokers to be sent to him.

One of the OGs. Rest easy. Am curious about his collection. I know I had talked to him about some of his really rare stuff he had stashed away including some unopened wax. Hope it finds a good home.

Melissa,

Your dad was a fantastic collector and a truly, if I may, magical part of the collecting community. I don't think I ever made any trades with him and I'm 99% sure I've never met him in person but both in this group and outside it he made a huge impact. His posts were always the ones I looked for first when I log in because I knew that post was going to include some awesome eye candy as well as his infectious positive attitude and humor.

My family's condolences and prayers for you and your family as you go through a very difficult time. If you need a shoulder I'm sure there are many, myself included, in this group who would be glad to repay a little bit of the kindness shown all of us by your dad.
