Just saw this myself, I actually had looked him up Sunday seeing as he wasn’t at the HOF inductions and was wondering how he was doing. Sad man, met him a few times when he was managing the Lehigh Valley Iron Pigs. Will have to post some of my stuff when I get time…

When he or his people issued a statement about spending time with his family, that seemed very much like the end. I was kind of keeping tabs on his progress via TTM sites that were reporting successes, then mail was "suddenly" being refused and returned.

He gave it a good shot. 65 is way too young still. Another 80s superstar gone way too soon in the same fashion as Puckett, Gwynn & Henderson.

RIP Ryno. With out a doubt you were the best. Thanks for the great memories. I was driving to Dallas on the day of the ' Sandberg Game ' the game of the week. I pulled over in St Louis to finish the game on the radio. WGN, Harry Caray was the announcer. What a thrill that was.

He will be missed. In the 1980s, he was one of my favorite Cubs players to watch on WGN. I have so many wonderful baseball memories of this man.

I had been dreading this day for some time now. There wasn’t a lot of joy in my childhood. Rushing home after school to catch the late innings of a Cubs game on WGN was, many times, the highlight of my day. Ryne Sandberg was truly my childhood hero. Hell, he’s still my hero. He showed true courage these past couple of years. I have only cried twice in my life after a death - my grandpa’s and Ryno’s. I’ll be honest - I’m not okay. Mr. Sandberg, thank you for bringing this kid such joy! May you rest in peace!

Very well said @thelesquad…

Like I said before, the bulk if not all of my Ryno IP collection… his book, a Cubs logo fat head, the HOF plaque and a bunch of cards (ignore the Bielecki ones) I might also have him in my Encyclopedia and I wonder if I got him on the Cubs postcard that @gracecollector sent me many years ago, but to be honest I’m not even sure where that is right now, lol. I need to organize better.
