I think one of the hardest things about collecting a player, team or even set is that once the issue becomes "old", everyone kind of forgets about it. When an issue is new, everyone is busting boxes and trying to sell what they pull out. Eventually that supply dries up and in most cases, dry up is an understatement.Then rthere are people like me who don't get rid of much of anything. I bought boxes back in the day, won lots off ebay for a card or a few and have probably ended up with little gems that people are looking for, but they are buried away.

That is one of my post retirement goals (when I get there), to finally finish sorting and then combined 40+ years of collecting and boxing so that it's all stored in a way I can find anything quickly. I might end up having (3) 5000 boxes full that just have players who's name starts with A, but at least I'll be able to find ALL my Roberto Alomar cards in one place.

What I look for is the giant "90" text in between horizontal lines of "UPPER DECK". That's the hockey one.

I need to go through my cards again, hard to imagine I dont have a hockey one in the 1700 1991 Upper Deck Andre Dawsons I have. Maybe I didn't really know what I was looking at when I went through them

The 2003 Topps set had these "Prime Cuts" inserts, with bat slices from the handle, trademark and barrel areas. The barrel ones were the rarest at 50 copies each.

I never thought much about it, but over the years I realized I never saw these things surface. So I looked at baseballcardpedia and when I saw the pack odds my jaw dropped. The Series 2 Prime Cuts inserts were hard to pull, but the Series 1 inserts were unbelievably hard to pull. For the barrel versions, you'd have to open 481,858 Series 1 hobby packs to expect to find a certain player, or 65,871 Series 1 HTA jumbo packs. I'm not making this up.

So this week I finally landed the elusive Series 1 barrel card, which completed the 6-card run (Alomar was in Series 1 and 2). So here they are.

My town got a little under a foot last week. Broke a few branches etc. But it's in the 60's now, and the snow is almost melted. Spring is here baby.

Eric Chavez was in that set but I only have the two smaller relics, not the big huge bat /50 (he also has an auto version of that one /50). Great cards. I do have this one from 2002:

I wish Alomar had an autographed version. I'm not really into game used cards, but a big slice of bat with an autograph right on it, yeah, I can get behind that.

This just in. An autographed jersey card SN15 from 2005.



It's an alright card, but I just can't get into the 2005 Absolute set.

For some reason this has always been one of my favorites. A one-off Topps oddball issue that was only released in complete sets, packaged in a little box like a deck of playing cards. I really miss stuff like this.

Here's a card from one of the best sets of all time, IMHO, 1993 Upper Deck. The "Future Heroes" insert:



It's a cool card. I like the design. As a bonus, the front photo has an A's logo in the background, while the back talks about Robbie's HR in the 1992 ALCS against Eckersley. Sorry @Dilferrules

But if you thought that was it for this particular card, you'd be wrong.

These 2001 Ultra Platinum Medallions shouldn't be that hard to find, right?

Also, there's a cameo on the Ruben Mateo card. And here's the Platinum version of that one:

Could those two shots have been from the same sequence? I'm wondering if he spun and came down to that position as he was avoiding the slide by Mateo.

Interesting question. It made me look at those cards closely. It's not the same play though, because in the cameo card he has full-length sleeves on, but on the base card it's short sleeves.

This just in today. 2001 Donruss Classics Chicago Sun-Times Show Stamp SN 5. That makes 18 of the known 2001-04 DLP show-stamped cards that have found a home in my collection.

This one looks really good, with the John Hancock tower stamp placed perfectly on the front.

So this little guy arrived in the ol' mailbox the other day. 1999 UD Exclusives Bronze /100. This completes the bronze run for that set, and most of the Exclusives Golds are 1/1...so I'll call that good too.

So we're coming up on my 10 year anniversary of getting back into the hobby. Yes, it was a dark and stormy night in the fall of 2014...

Since then I've scoured the corners of the dark web to try and connect with fellow Alomar collectors. And I've managed to locate a few. But trading partners have been extremely few and far between. Apparently these guys are all like me, not anxious to part with their hard won treasures.

But today I sent out my end of a trade with this fellow Chris, an Alomar collector from California. It's a 3 for 1 trade, with the 1 being a 2014 Dynasty and the 3 being some 2000's inserts that I needed. Feels like a red letter day! Sorry to see that Dynasty go, because the 2014 set was one of the most gorgeous issues ever. But the cards in return fill nice little holes in the ol' collection, so I'm happy.

I'll post them when they arrive...

Alrighty then!

The package arrived yesterday, and two runs are now complete.

Here's the first one, 2000 Tek. Cards in this set came in 20 patterns, divided into 4 groups of 5. Each group featured a different photo, with the first three groups (patterns 1-5, 6-10, 11-15) featuring a portrait photo, on-base photo, and batting photo (for hitters anyway). The last group (16-20) featured another batting photo, but was short printed. Each of these cards used a different color (purple, red, yellow, green, blue). I was missing pattern 16, the purple one, but no more!



Here's the second one, 2000 Pacific. As you probably know, Pacific did a photo variation gimmick for this set, with the same card number available in a portrait or an action photo. Ahead of their time, really. And each was available in the silver-foiled base + 6 parallels: Ruby (7-11), Gold (Retail, SN 199), Copper (Hobby, SN 99), Emerald Green (7-11, SN 99), Platinum Blue (SN 75), and Premier Date (Hobby, SN 37). The action photo Platinum Blue was the one I needed...really glad to have it. Not often that a missing Pacific Parallel comes my way.
