How can someone write that they would "lose respect for him" if this story was true?

Do you really think he wants AIDS?

I don't even know how people abandoned ship on him after the spitting incident. We have seen far worse happen on the field.

I feel bad for Robbie. My opinion of him hasn't changed at all. I sort of respect him more.

Uhm....I think it has to do with the allegation that he either hid or refused to acknowledge his HIV status with his girlfriend.

Seriously....does anyone bother to read and comprehend anymore?

Maybe they just read my post and trust me as their beacon of news....

That's a mistake....

What I'm referring to is that he forced a woman to have unprotected sex with him. If he has HIV/AIDS - then yes, I definitely will lose respect for him for endangering a woman's life. I wouldn't have lost any respect for him if he is HIV positive or full blown AIDS, but by insisting on having unprotected sex - that is just like murder in my eyes.

It takes two to tango. She could have said no....she could have even left him if he was that much of a demanding ogre. Something ($$) made her stay, no?

I am sure he didn't "force" her to do anything. Now, if he hid his HIV status and they had unprotected sex...while he KNEW he was sick? That's a whole other story...and pretty despicable.

?

Having sex and not telling someone you have AIDS BEFORE you have sex with them is two completely different things, dude.

re-read what I wrote. Maybe someday you'll understand. Then again, maybe not.

I agree with that. But from the article, it sounds like he hid his HIV status and insisted on having unprotected sex, and that is why she is suing him. That is exactly why I said I would lose all respect for him. The woman could be on the pill , so birth control might not have been an issue.

Yeah, I see two completely contradictory sentences. Maybe you should re-read what you wrote, or don't.

I would hate to hear of anyone being sick with this disease. I honestly never suspected Alomar of hiding his interests I remember watching him, Sandy, and Carlos Baerga all playing in the minors when I was a kid. Ironically the team name was the Charleston Rainbows. Single A Padres team in the 80's.

True. If indeed he knew and hid it from her...that's about as low and as sick as it gets. We'll all just have to sit and wait to see how this all unfolds.

I'm worried, can I get AIDS from this card?

And before you say anything, I would like to make two points. First, I am joking. Second, that is not the dumbest thing said in this thread. Think about it.

And yes, I think the lawsuit is frivolous because she did not contract HIV from him. But, if the story is true, she is very lucky.

Robbie Alomar + Omar Vizquel = best middle infield EVAR!

;)

Sucks that he has AIDS though.

And BTW, for everyone saying that AIDS can't be passed through saliva is mistaken.

It can be passed through ANY transmission of bodily fluids, however it's EXTREMELY rare that one would contract it through transmission of saliva.
I remember in school talking about this, It would still take like a gallon of saliva or something like that thought. Also like you said Extreamely rare.

ye, the person who talked about it to us said you'd need to drink one of those huge jugs of water filled with saliva in about a minute to do it

The question is this: does he have AIDS or HIV? If he has full blown AIDS, he's in for a short and less than awesome time. If it is still HIV, he could have a relatively healthy life ala Magic Johnson.

On another note, if he is gay he should come out. He'd be a gay hero as the first major baseball player to come out. Billy Bean came out (and wrote a very interesting book about it) but he doesn't have nearly the impact that Roberto Alomar would. While steroids is destroying baseball's rep it would be good to get the homosexual stigma out of the way too. It is sad when basketball beats you to the punch.

He actually wouldn't be. There was another player who came out while he was playing but I do not remember his name. It was on the OTL episode with Ezra Tuaolo. But, I understand your point that Alomar would be the most influential.

Yup. Billy Bean. I mentioned it in the post. I think you misread slightly. I said "first major baseball player" not "first major league baseball player". In other words, a huge name coming out as gay.

EDIT: Also, don't confuse Billy Beane with Billy Bean.

It's a shame when anybody's life becomes in jeopardy.

Magic seems to have beaten it.

Good luck to Roberto and his loved ones.
