He did not bet on baseball as a player, he was a player/manager when he was betting!
and when he made these bets, was he in uniform? if not he was betting as a human being.. or did he make the bets from the dugout phone?

So did the Manager Pete Rose bet on baseball or did the Player Pete Rose bet on baseball...

also why would they use his real name in any books?
Chuck could have been a good name for him

What difference does it make whether he bet as a player, player/manager, or manager? The rules are pretty damn clear. Now I'm much more prone to give him a pass and believe he officially belongs in the Hall if he "only" placed bets while simply 'managing', but in light of this OTL story I believe he has no place and never should have a place in Cooperstown. Mention his on-field accomplishments if you must (and you must), but that's it.

I can be a pretty naive dude, and really wanted to believe him when he said he only bet as a manager, never as a player. Now people want to believe the story that he only bet on the Reds to win. My naivete stops there. I simply cannot swallow that line. If he had the balls, as a player, to bet on baseball in the first place, then I absolutely believe he crossed the line and bet against his own team.

His bookie said Rose bet on baseball from 84-86, so no telling when he started. It wouldn't do any good to ask him when he started betting cause he would just tell another lie. So sad.

Dude is more famous that 95% of all stiffs in there.

Cooperstown isn't even really affiliated with MLB. There are several players enshrined that never set foot on an official MLB field. This was a ploy in 1930s to get people to visit a depression riddled town. In fact all those years there was never a reason that Joe Jackson couldn't have been voted in. The provision that excluded banned players was only added AFTER Rose was banned for life by Bart.

This is all silly. Enshrine the legends and make note of their ridiculousness on their plaque. It's pretty simple.
