none of the so called users get in first ballot. Arod, Bonds, Clemens, Sosa, Sheffied, etc. none of them get in first ballot. The writers will make them wait a few years. Regardless of arod's stats, he will NOT be a first ballot after this fiasco.

*blinks* What does that have to do with the price of olives in Sacramento?

Oh gee sorry, I didn't fee like looking very hard.

anyway, yes.... I agree.....

with Berkman as well.

Berkman has said repeatedly he'd give blood weekly to prove he's clean. And now, a part of him wants to know who else is, too. Or, more accurately, who's not.

"I want an honest evaluation of me as a player," he said. "I don't want to compete against guys who are artificially enhancing. Are they physically gifted above and beyond what I am? If they are, that's fine. If not, it makes me angry, quite frankly."

Walk away from the union or shut up.

The Player's Union is a beautiful shield for all players to hide behind, so until one of these players who openly agrees to testing in public actually crosses the union...I'll take it for what it's worth...airtime.

Other players have said the same thing Oswalt is saying and yet no one makes a stand.

Can't anyone just give him props for taking a vocal stance on the matter??? At least he said SOMETHING. It's more than most players would have the balls to say. It's like an insane asylum in here with people acting like HE is the one that did something wrong. It's so frustrating looking at some of these absurd comments and opinions.

Mike,

There aren't many here that even understand what you're saying. That's clear to me in my time spent here.

I have no problem with a vocal stance, but it truly is meaningless. Let's not forget the Alex Rodriguez has said similar things in the past about testing.

But every player knows that the union won't let them do these tests so the vocal stance is nothing more than public posturing.

When a player walks across the union and actually stands up for what he apparently believes whole-heartedly in, then I'll give "props." Until then, I'll act like he said nothing of value. Nothing wrong, just nothing of value.

So no player can ever mean what he says unless he takes a union breaking stance on the matter? You don't think a player can just voice an opinion without going up against the foundation of his job security?

This isn't a factory industry, so it isn't as though Oswalt (or any other player) would risk job security.

What Oswalt is doing is posturing. Virtually every player caught so far has made similar claims (not implying that Oswalt is using at all) when they know that the union won't let them test.

It's controlled.

And if Oswalt and others are truly "up in arms" about steroids and how the "Steroid Era" taints their legacy as well...take a stand. A real stand, not some vocal cop-out with no results or resolution.

Last I heard, Craig Counsell is still playing isn't he?

Mike, I agree with you about truly making a statement but I still stand by my opinion that this is equivalent of me telling my wife that parents should beat their kids if they don't stop yelling in the grocery store. I don't actually expect them to break out the cattle prod.

It isn't like Oswalt called a press conference. A reporter stuck a microphone in his face and asked how he felt about the situation.

I have yet to read this thread, and I will, but I must say good for Oswalt. He doesn't speak his mind nearly enough, and I'm glad he spoke up. For any bashers of his statements please remember he came from a very small & rural town. His views on the game are old school, so I'm sure his opinions are coming from his old school view. I doubt Oswalt has ever taken PEDs. I wouldn't be upset if he did. He does however have a family to think about, not only in terms of financial situations, but how his children will view his career later on in life. As for his statements themselves I disagree. No stats should be abolished.

A MLB player takes a stand against steroids that are ruining the league and people on here say that Oswalt needs to get off his high horse. Pretty ridiculous. He should be angry, he should say these things. If I was a player who was clean his whole career, I would be angry too. More people should step and say these things as it would help baseball's image. Let us know that there are players out there who won't stand for this and care about the integrity of the game.

I think it's interesting that, at this point, 67% voting think something other than "NO".

Pretty telling as to the sope of the impact PED's have on fans.

If you think it's fair to take away an Olympic Medal b/c the winner was proven to be a PED user, why not apply the same logic to other events/sports.

You cheat, you should be out and discredited. That's my opinion.

With such a long laundry list of players using PEDs, you wonder some of the lesser known players would have ended up in terms of stardom. I mean, did the guys who hit 40-50 homers without drugs during the ridiculously high HR total years deserve more credit as the best in the game (not that I'd even know who they are, but I'm just throwing the thought out there)?

I would hope that the majority voted something other than "YES" simply due to the fact that you cannot erase anything from the past.

We cannot erase steroids, we cannot erase statistics.
