Interesting stuff.

rotoworld.com

The NBA competition committee is meeting during the All-Star break and could make a major change to the goaltending rule.
The proposed change would allow the ball to be blocked anytime after it has hit the rim, even if it's on the rim or over the cylinder (it's unclear whether the same rules would apply to offensive goaltending). That would more closely resembles the international FIBA rules and would be a boon for shot-blockers like Dwight Howard -- on the other hand, the potential for controversial calls looms large.

Well, that is the rule in FIBA, but I don't want to change the rule in the NBA.

well the rest of the world goes by that rule so im not surprised the NBA is considering it. Not sure how this would effect the game

That would make Sean Williams more valuable since he is a shot blocking machine.

I had to plug Williams tonight, and this was probably the best opportunity I will get tonight

It will effect it quite a bit. Now Dwight Howard can swat a ball off the rim that's rolling around instead of watching it fall in on the defensive in. I think it happens a bit more than you would think.

Ah, just reread the rule and now i get it. I guess i didn't really think about how they could basically just knock the ball away anytime it hits the rim. Guess this would lower the score considerably
