If you look at their numbers side by side they are very comparable. Westbrook averages 23/6/8 with two steals and Rose averages 24/4/9 with one steal.

Obviously Rose gets more hobby love right now but how long before Russell Westbrook really blows up a la Derrick Rose? I know he's popped lately but I'm talking superstar stauts; when do you think he'll make the big jump? He's a dynamic player on the most entertaining team in the league, I think the time is sooner than later.

Curious on your thoughts.

The one thing I would fear - from an investment standpoint with Westbrook - is that he will always be perceived as a sidekick.

I'm not sure how that will effect future value within the hobby world. From a pure basketball perspective, you watch any show (Espn, inside the NBA, etc.) and he is in the discussion among top young PG's and in the same sentence as Derrick Rose.
That being said, being #2 worked out for a guy like Pippen, so I think a major jump for him with coincide with OKC's success as a team. If he's putting up those numbers and their advancing through the playoffs......people will notice.
Until that point - he's "Robin" for a smaller market team.

Westbrook is an amazing young player. Hopefully his hobby popularity will start to climb once the Thunder make the playoffs and start contending in the playoffs. I think they'll be in the playoffs for several years to come with the core of that team.

the one "problem "is that Russell will never be #1 on that team

The other problem is that Rose plays in Chicago and Westbrook plays in Oklahoma City.

i don't think this matters as much as you are making it seem. he's not a role player. he's firmly establishing his self as a bona-fide star. and the great/championship teams have often had 2 big stars. Jordan/Pippen, Shaq/Kobe, Duncan/Robinson, Stockton/Malone, etc

It makes a HUGE difference. There can only be one main hobby guy for a team.

Jordan always outsold Pippen.

Kobe prices didn't take off until AFTER Shaq left.

Duncan sold better than Drob since he was younger.

And malone/stockton never won, so their prices stayed relatively low for how good they were.

There can only be one big guy on the team.

Westbrook will ALWAYS play second fiddle to Durant.

i'm not saying his prices will surpass Durant... but I am saying that there is still room for much growth. I think you are arguing for the former, which i don't disagree with

Well, in that case, sure, anyone can have his card prices go up, and certainly westbrook if he continues his fine play, but never up to durantula's prices, that fer sure.

Hobby wise Rose will probably always get more money but on the court I'll take Westbrook over Rose any day of the week.

well then no point in discussing it since rose will never win even one title in his career. I think durant and westbrook have a chance to win in 3-5 years if that team stays in tact. Not saying OKC will win though just saying they have a chance. Am saying however chicago will never win with this team.

Cha Ching!!

Doesnt make a difference how good a player is when it comes to profits. All he has to do is play in a big market with lots of collectors that have $$. Drose in chicago helps him price wise vs Westbrook. Look at Deron Williams. Dude gets no love in Utah. Put him in LA, guarentee he would be up there!!

You can also make good money are bad boys. For some odd reason, asian collectors love nba bad boys. Jason Williams, Latrell Sprewell, Dennis Rodman. They drive prices up all the time. While asian/euro collectors do the same to some old school hobby admiration for players like Cweb, Penny, Kemp, Hill, Reggie Miller, Barkley!!

Yea I had two European bidders that loved this Sheed printing plate I had. I was expecting $20 or so and they drove it up to $60, I was happy.
