Ryan Braun is apparently no showing the Brewers fan fest next week and using the suspension possibility as an excuse. This is the same Ryan Braun who arrived an hour and half late and refused to sign autographs at a Doug Davis charity bowling/autograph signing fundraiser a couple years ago that he and Prince Fielder were advertised as the featured attendees at. As a Brewers fan I wish the team had spent their money on Fielder (who I have never seen be anything other than awesome to the fans) as opposed to Braun who I can't begin to say anything nice about beyond his perhaps enhanced abilities to play baseball.

It's not the wrong decision.

Everything with his suspension is still pending and everyone thinks they know something about it. If he's impassioned on the subject as he appeared to be when the news first broke, there's no way some tidbit of info doesn't slip that could affect his appeal.

If you don't beleive that hypothetical, this is a perfect instance of him being an agent of chaos at an event that already has ingredients to be somewhat chaotic.

It's for the better good that he not be there, I'm pretty much fully in Attanasio's corner here, if not his exact statement.

Its just another kick in the junk for us Brewer Fans this offseason. At least we have memories of the World Series Championship in 2011- ooops. Carry on.

He's not Barry Bonds - I'm sure 98.8 percent of fans would have loved for him to be there.

If he was there for autographs, he probably had to sign for everyone at the event and that isn't how it works in the real world, so there is no guarantee the ones who don't get an autograph will be happy about what is going on in general.

I just have to throw in my $.02. WTF !!!!!!!!! I mean yeah, everyone has there own personality etc, but you play a game for a living. You make more money in one year, than most people see in a lifetime... You have fans, people who PAY YOUR SALARY.. All you have to do is just show up, hang out, chat with yoru fans, and sign a few things. Not that tough, Not to mention you will be making someone's day. So you wanna hide behind your possible suspension? Well if you are not guilty, then show up, get in the public eye. Kid has got serious baseball skills, but he is a CLASSLESS ******... I will now step off of my soapbox. Thanks ;)

Apparently Braun doesn't follow his own words...

"I’ve chosen to view every challenge I’ve ever faced as an opportunity and this will be no different. I’ve always believed that a person’s character is revealed through the way they deal with those moments of adversity."

Are we sure this decision wasn't made for him? Any chance this was the boss' decision?

The only thing that Braun "owes" the fans is to go out and play the game at the best of his abilities. If he doesn't want to do these team appearances, no matter his reason, it makes no difference. The entitlement of some "fans" is ridiculous. The "fans" don't pay his salary, the TV deal and outside revenues do (MLB gameday royalties, radio deal, ESPN/FOX MLB TV rights, MLB merchandise split, etc etc).

Makes sense. He would be a distraction and either try not to talk about his situation, which people would criticize him about; or possibly say something he's not allowed or shouldn't.

All this D-bag talk is overblown. It's ONE event, and there are some extenuating circumstances. And stop with all the high-and mighty, "he owes fans this", and "if I were a player..." NONE of us has the slightest clue about anything going on with him.

Anyone who wants to flip out here must be a big fan og "guilty until proven innocent." I hope you all are living perfect lives.

Why doesn't everybody respect the decision the OWNER of the Brewers made to protect Braun from the hounding the media would have given Braun at the On Deck event. He didn't take any performance enhancing drug, but his reputation gets ruined because of the leak of this story, and he gets grouped into all of the others that is unfair. Braun is one of the class acts in Baseball, bar none.

Hilarious the differing opinions here, even among Brewers fans.

I am not sure how anyone here can state that he didn't take an illegal substance. It is pretty obvious that he did, and that will be proven soon enough. I actually hope for the sake of baseball that he DIDN'T take anything!

I am hoping it was a mess up in the testing because two other Brewers were found to have high levels too, but don't hear about that. I am thinking it had to do with how the testing is done.

No one, at any point, has said he didn't take a banned substance (unless they're idiots). I've said I don't know. I'd actually hate for there to be a problem with the test, as that would ruin all testing for quite some time. If there are extenuating circumstances, we'll hear them.

But no one knows more than anyone else at this point, so to speak in the definative, either way, is irresponsible.
