I'll post my thoughts/reasons for making poll etc after some votes (want to see results beforehand).

Mix of both things.
Currently the vote is Longoria 6....Braun...2

First I just wanted to see the popularity differential of Braun and Longoria. Both are young upcoming guys who seem to be popular among all baseball fans. It seems like both have an equal amount of fan base (from what i've seen online and on tv>?).

Braun obviously is the better hitter (3 years straight of 30+ HR and hit .320+ twice and his lowest avg is still better than longoria best avg), and also steals more bases (15-20). ROY, 2 time all star and 2 time silver slugger.

Longoria is a strong defender, and some could argue gold glove caliber and is a two time all star and ROY at the age of 23.

But somehow Longoria chrome autos are selling for 170-180 while Braun chrome autos have been right under the triple digit mark? Doesn't make sense.

So does popularity outweigh the performance of player when determining market value of his cards? Both players don't play on super large market teams (both can argue smaller markets). I'm just curious why Longoria's are much more dominant than Brauns.

Longoria hit a lot of homers one postseason and went to a World Series, hence more national exposure, and thus, higher prices. Braun is the better hitter, but that isn't everything.

I know, but he and fielder are quite the pair and made the playoffs in 08 in that tight race with the choking mets and had that exposure. The games were going back and forth on TV.

So you can compare position players if they play different positions. So when mlb network compares different players (by position) or makes their prime 9 list with different positions your response while watching is :/

Doesn't really matter compared to what Longoria's team did, and what he did (in the ALDS anyway). Also, Braun and Prince didn't get much of the exposure for that run - CC Sabathia did.

Can't argue it when he already has a Gold Glove.

I think it's partly due to the fact that Braun hit the bigs a year earlier, and his hype has somewhat wore off, while Longoria's hasn't seem to cooled off too much. Didn't he have a period last year where he caught absolute fire?

Clarification? I understand this to be true, but dang-it, what could be so radical or particular, as to pass him?

Of course you can.

I just found it a little random. I didn't know what to base it on. I wasn't sure what you were getting at. You could have been hinting at numerous categories.

I think people are still waiting on that monster year for Longoria, while Braun really can't do much better than he has already done.

That's probably why Longoria sells for more, cause he has more Potential still, and potential (for a profit) sells in this hobby, not performance.

Besides, Longoria sucks anyways, but his sister Eva is still hot.

Seriously, though, I think Braun comes off as arrogant and Longoria seems more down to earth. I mean Braun is from the snooty Valley, and Longo grew up in the Downey ghetto - he's got more street cred.

I guess, however on MLB Network when they were talking about the best 3-4 hitters they think Braun still has a BIG Season in him. I guess I can see it as his last two seasons have been similar to his ROY season.
