Howard benifits also from Having Utley and Rollins..
Pujols has who?? Izturis, Eckstein, Shumaker, Ryan..C'mon...
Have you ever heard of Matt Holliday, the all-star player who hit .313 with 24 homers and 109 rbi this season?
He hits behind Pujols.
Or Ryan Ludwick, who hit 22 homers with 97 rbi this season?
He hits behind Holliday.
Now regarding this thread, I have no comment, because there are so many idiotic statements involved.
Yeah..Ive heard of Matt Holiday the 3 months he was with us.. THIS SEASON...didnt know 63 games was a season??? I have hear of Luddy...great last year and little rough this year... Howard has had Rollins and Utley since his first FULL YEAR..who has ALbert had??? NO ONE.. a guy for 3 months and Luddy last year and injured this year.
I was about to say the same thing, but figured someone else would be smart enough to post it before I did. Even more impressive, the year Pujols won the World Series he even had less protection.Howard is surrounded by 3-4 All Stars minimum year after year.
RCRX's comment "Pujols has who?" is in the present tense.
That is why I listed Holliday and Ludwick, since the topic is about Pujols' performance in the postseason.
My answer has nothing to do with previous years.
However, I would take Pujols over Howard in a clutch situation, because he has a less chance of striking out, although Howard is clutch too.
I was merely answering RCRX's question about who Pujols has now.

Misinterpreted I guess, but several posters have brought up career stats for both players, and the thread was initially was directed at Pujols pre '05.Regardless, Pujols was still mashing in April/May/June and most of July without Holliday and an up and down Ludwick (when he wasn't hurt).Howard had Victorino, Utley, Werth, and Ibanez all year--that's 4 All-Stars right there.Pujols had nothing like that in '09.

Kevin

I doubt he'd have time to answer it anyway. He's probably clearing out more space in his trophy room as we speak.

So now that we have all hashed this out................

So who would win a fight between Strasburg, Harper, Howard, Pujols, and Chuck Norris?

If this was 2008, most people would say Laporta.

Why? Pujols laid a turd in the playoffs as well. At least Ryan Howard got his team to the World Series.

It's a dumb argument to say howard is better than pujols but they both have come up small at the time of the season where the all-time greats remind everyone why they are all time greats. Example, anyone who still wants to argue jeter is overrated may have trouble selling that these days...

pujols dont strike out a bazilion times though.....he will at least put the ball in play to make something happen, and yeah pujols is terrible in the playoffs hitting a 322 avg with 13 hr's and 36 rbi's only striking out 28 times which howard may eclipse this series lol

This is an argument for a different thread but the idea that an out from a K is worse than one with contact out.

Ryan Howard was having a pretty good post season until the yankees came along and through some very good lefties at him. Ryan Howard has been pretty awful but history aside, pujols wasnt that great either.

pujols....322 avg....13 hr's....36 rbi's....only 28 k's
howard...277 avg....6hr's....25 rbi's...41 k's

I wasnt talking careers, I'm talking specifically this post season.

But whatever, there isnt an argument in any dimension where howard is anywhere as good as pujols.

My take on this whole nonsense:

There's no need to bring this thread back up. The OP took an unpopular and sometimes ridiculous opinion and everyone jumped all over him. He made himself an easy target and predictably, everyone fired away. There was less mentally stimulating and well thought out debating in this thread than maybe any other thread in the history of this board.

While the OP defended his stance (poorly, I might add) in sometimes insulting ways and generally acted like a *******, I don't think the gang mentality is necessary here. I feel like the more people bump this thread with such mind numbingly easy nuggets like "Oh what happened to Howard now?", the more the OP is going to feel pushed and say something stupid.

It's a lose/lose. Let it die. This is silliness.

in my opinion they both will have laid turds if the yankees win. me bumping this thread was more to point and laugh at all the howard is so clutch statements made in the 12+ pages. his average and 10ks in 4 games is not backing the original posters point.
