Seems to me that Ryan Moats was emotional and in a rush....

Let's just say - what if Ryan Moats' wife was pregnant, and the same thing happened - what would you think of the cop then?

The Cop seemed to be on a pretty big Power trip to me.

I agree he was, however emotions should be held in check at some point. Obviously this is hard to do but to think that Moats is completely innocent would be naive. It would have taken him 30 seconds to wait out the light and there would be no issue.

That is completely true, but at the same time, the way the officer treated him once he explained why he was in a rush is totally without compassion. He threatened to take him to jail for running a red light and for arguing with him because he said that he was in a rush to see his dying mother-in-law? For his attitude problem? What the heck? I'd demand his badge.

I dont disagree, Except with the firing thing. Why not reeducate him on human compassion instead of demanding his job? He is a young officer with only 2 years experience. Something like this could provide him with the proper knowledge to become a very good public servant one day.

I think that sometimes you can't teach compassion to someone. But, what happens if they put him in a class, and supposedly he's taught, and later on, he kills someone because of the same issues?

I dunno, I guess I just dont follow your line of thinking. He did not handle the emotional situation very well, not sure how that could lead to him killing someone.

He pulled his gun out. You can accidentally shoot someone in a situation like that. For example, see the Oakland BART police incident where a cop shot a bullet into a guy's back.

Maybe the law is different where they were, but in Massachusetts, you aren't supposed to get punished for breaking traffic laws (speeding and running a red light) if you are rushing to the hospital for an emergency. If there is only one car in the area, and that car waves him through, he shouldn't get in trouble.
Also, I didn't watch the video, but the article made it seem like Moats was as polite as humanly possible. I definitely would have reacted much worse than he did.

90% of the cops I've encountered are on a power trip. It's hard to find a good straight cop now a days, at least around here.

I thought this whole situation was quite disturbing. I understand that the guy did something illegal, but the cop could have at least been compassionate and let him run inside. If it was me, I would have let him go regardless, I dont think anyone would have argued. However, since the guy was on a power trip, he could have handled the situation after Moats went inside and came back out.

I have been in a similar situation that still haunts me today. I never got pulled over, but just the feeling of rushing to this type of thing is so utterly crazy. I get sick just thinking about it. I have every bit of identification with moats.

Sometimes you are just thinking about random things and it pops back into your head, then it doesnt leave for the rest of the day. Luckily it happened a few years ago, so the memory is fading. The person wasnt close to me, but was very close to my wife. You just never feel the same after you witness someone go through this type of situation. Its scary to think about.

that was on purpose....there was no reason to pull your weapon as officers already had the guy face down on the ground.......some cops are still racist.....that's all there is to it.....me personally.....I hate cops!

just another example of how some people cant handle the job of having authority, like alot of cops the power goes to their head and they think they can do whatever they want
