I have a better idea, about we take the $2,000,000+ the screen is going to cost and invested in a good hitting prospect?

Wow that is going to be distracting for hitters. Yeah agreed they should use the money for some better hitters or bringing in the fences.

It'll probably be free to the M's as part of a sponsorship deal when you consider if fans are impressed with a Panasonic screen at the park, they will want a smaller panasonic screen at home.

BTW, probably won't be distracting. I doubt they'll show live video during the pitches, or else the videoboard may be up high enough not to be distracting to a hitter (just like it doesn't appear to be distracting to NFL kickers when the scoreboard is high up in the stadium behind the field goal posts).

From the team..

"The Mariners are responsible for capital upgrades, maintenance and operations at Safeco Field, and the cost of the new scoreboard and several other capital projects to be completed during the offseason are part of an overall $80+ million investment the Mariners have made in Safeco Field since 1999."

That being said, the new screen has NOTHING to do with the player payroll and has no affect on the search for a hitter or two this off season, they are completely separate budgets. Also, someone mentioned the fences, that is already being done and the process has started. When I went to upgrade my season tickets recently, they had already pulled off the outfield wall panels in LF.

That's just a mock up, it's not installed yet. They're still removing the existing screen/advertising panels and preparing the wall for the new screen.

"The new video screen will have better resolution than is available for broadcast HD and will be able to display the usual scoring information, lineups, etc., can be divided into sectors to provide a combination of information, stats and video at the same time or become a giant video screen equivalent to 2,182 42-inch flat screens."
