Scanner help.

I hate to be a J.O., but I am looking for opinions on a scanner. Nothing to expensive, but besides that I am open to anything. I would love to see some examples of cards scanned.

Also I was going to get the canoscan lide 25 but I can't find it on ebay and Newegg.com says it's sold out.

Thanks Dave. That looks pretty good, and I did see that one on sale. What DPI did you use on that?

Thenumberonemetsfan- Those look really good. I have a all in one now and it is bitch to use because mostly I scan at night when I am laying in bed. If that is a good price though I might get it.

All scanners will scan cards just fine if they are in top loaders or raw.

A good scanner makes BGS and PSA slabs look like they look in your hand (not blurry). You will need a scanner with a CCD scanning element to accomplish this. Most cheap ALL IN ONE printer/scanners have a CIS scanning element. You should be able to find a scanner with a CCD for under $100. Here are a few scans of mine. Note that there is no blurring on the BGS slab:

Those look great. Thanks for the tip! What scanner do you actually use?

Mine is an HP scanjet 4570c. It's about 5 years old.

The scan of the Pelfrey gold is on a Canoscan Lide 200, and that is a CIS scanner. Note how the writing blurs. If that were a BGS slab (which is thicker), it would be even worse. With a CCD, you can scan autographed baseballs and they still look OK. A CIS scan of a ball would be awful.

Oh, and don't worry about resolution. My scans are at 150 and 200 dpi and are more than adequate. ALL scanners scan up to 2400 dpi.

A scanner is something that you should NOT be looking for "on the cheap".
A scanner is something that you want to actually ENJOY the end result.

you get what you pay for.

in the end, $100 is not that much money
