Does anyone understand what the J12 refers to in the card numbers? It makes sense that there are 408 cards, and each card is ***/408. However I'd really like to know what the J12 refers to.

Also, has anyone seen variations of the same card? I heard something about a silver version...

EDIT- Sorry, ended auctions on eBay show what look to be versions that have mostly gold foil on the front. The explanation from the seller-

"The card is from 2012 Sega Card Gen MLB baseball arcade machine. There are 60 RARE version cards in. It costs about $2.00 to play this particular arcade game machine. You can get one RARE card from every 50 play, average. Because it is 60 cards set, and you can only get one RARE card out of 50 plays, it is very tough to pull certain players RARE card out of this."

Would be very nice if someone got the checklist of the 60 cards. It looks like the variations are not just the same card with gold foil. Instead, an entirely new image on the front. It also seems that it's not just the first 60 cards from the 408. Pretty cool, IMO...

Just received mine today....

Correct, the Rare set is a completely separate set from the main base set. The way the set is ordered, if you just did the first 60 cards of the base set, you'd just end up with cards from 3 or 4 teams. The Rare set are usually the bigger stars. There is also a 10-card CardGen Tournament Champion set that has a little gold trophy on the front. These were apparently awarded to winners of local CardGen tournaments. The set is made up completely of former NPB players in the US. I need to get those added to the SCF database.

I believe J12 is the year (2012). And I've copied checklists for the rare variations from 2010-2012 below.
