I win a three card lot of common 1993 Pinnacle Cooperstown Duffex for $10 dlvd. That is a cheap price as these would easily get $10 each and often closer to $20 each
http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=270439893150&ssPageName=STRK:MEWNX:IT

Shortly after I paid I get the following e-mail:
I wanted to know if you would agree to cancel the transaction. It seems that when the cards were pulled apart there was transfer and it damaged the front of the cards. I rather not sell it then for you to get it and be upset. I want to protect my seller rating and my ebay status. Will you agree to cancle [sic] the transaction for a full refund?

I'd be quite shocked if these rare cards were not individually protected with some sort of holder or that the seller wouldn't notice this alleged damage prior listing the cards... say when he was scanning them. I replied to the seller: I'd like to see scans of the damage/cards before agreeing to cancel the transaction.

Update: Seller refused to send a scan. I asked him if he was that concerned about the condition why not offer me a discount or simply send for free? I also offered to take two different cards from the set he had listed. The seller instead gave me a full refund and then essentially begged to not get a negative. Negative he will get. My BS meter went off the chart from this sellers' communication.

It does blow when a card doesn't sell for what you expect but that is eBay life. Last night I sold a raw 1995 Pinnacle Museum #128 Griffey card for $13 and change. The BGS 9.5 version I sold the same evening only went for $9.99. I certainly didn't e-mail the buyer of the gem making up a story. I'll take my $9.99 and move on.

I would let eBay know that you were willing to take the cards damaged or not and he still gave you a refund.
I would then tell Ebay you still want the cards for the price sold. I would still neg the hell out of his ass

Sellers remorse you got to love it!!!!!!!!!!

I screwed up the feedback by not clicking negative. I did leave a follow up repeating the word NEGATIVE about 10 times.

You took the refund? Aw man. You should've INSISTED on the cards. It's so obvious he's lying it's ridiculous. Asinine is too appropriate...

He did not just take the refund, the seller just refunded him the money, refused to send the cards, or even scans of the cards.

I knew I recognized that name. I had to go back and look but I bought a 1993 McGwire Dufex card from him but it was a BIN that I talked him down to 1/2 BV.
