Especially considering Burbank prices. I have no problem with them charging what they do. I am just saying that I would find it hard to believe someone could "flip" something from Burbank.

That being said, anything #'d under 10 is really special. Even though they paid high, if it's a set collector, oh well, it is what it is. Even the Gwynn (#'d/4) was at $280, which was out of my range, but was an okay price. (I offered $200 once and no dice!)

I agree with you about the others, though. Who would buy a FreddyGarcia /25 for $60??? Congrats Burbank!!!

Not everyone is in the hobby to flip cards.

A set collector or Freddy Garcia collector would play $60 for a tough 2000's insert that rarely pop up.

I never said that, but thanks for the enlightenment.

Obviously. It just happened. Again, thanks for the enlightenment.

By the way, way to cut out eveything I said around those quotes to make up your own meaning. It gives me a good idea for a lesson for my 6th graders on Monday!

The Travis Lee Future 1/1 from '98 was recently purchased as well (BO for $350/BIN at $399). I was POed because I was about to pull the trigger, as I already have the Future 1/1 from '99.

I know a couple people were trying for entire sets years ago, maybe one of them resumed their quest. I assume the stock Burbank had came from the guy in Hawaii who passed away, maybe it is this guy's main competitor who is picking them up again.

The only people who are crazy are sellers with their crazy bins nobody hits.

The amount for that card is LOW to a collector going for that set.

No, I didnt cut up anything.

Unless you mean the part where you said "I agree with you about the others, though. Who would buy a FreddyGarcia /25 for $60??? Congrats Burbank!!"

and... "Especially considering Burbank prices. I have no problem with them charging what they do. I am just saying that I would find it hard to believe someone could "flip" something from Burbank."

Yeah, that changed the whole meaning of what you said around

::facepalm::

Notice the underlined parts are originally what you said, and the part I left out.

I wasnt trying to be a smartass, but thanks for your remarkably intelligent comments. Im glad todays youth are getting such great educations from the older generation.

Maybe a resurgence of other 90's inserts?

These cards have been on fire in the basketball market, particularly Jordan, with many rarer inserts going for 2-6 times book value (i'm talking about a $120 insert selling for over $800!!!!!!!).

Perhaps speculators are guessing the trend will spill over into the baseball market as well.

The apostrophe and it's many uses. Lesson for Tuesday! Thanks!

And thank you for the compliment. I agree! I only wish there were more great teachers out there!

All hail his royal majesty!

I'm sorry I'm not as perfect with punctuation and grammar as yourself and miss an apostrophe in a sentence

:o

Please, spare my poor ignorant excuse of a life

Hey, HPC, don't be so hard on yourself. It's an on-line message board. No one is perfect. Look, even I made a post that wasn't totally clear. Plus, I make spelling mistakes and grammar mistakes all the time when I am in a hurry or I don't go back and check it.
By the way, do you live in/near Avondale? I taught there for a few years a while back. Avondale Middle School (I think it's Lattie Coor, now). Great school! Great area. Many people would call it a "rough area", but many of those kids just needed someone to show that they care about them. I loved it there!

By the way, "it's" should be "its" since you are referring to the possessive pronoun of "it." ;)

No one who's buying from Burbank is looking for a "flip". Burbank's entire pricing model is predicating on pricing out everyone except the one guy who wants to keep a particular card in his PC. It's pretty smart actually, although it must be infuriating to any bargain-hunting buyer who is looking for a steal.

I'm not sure what's particularly 'crazy' about the prices those cards sold for. Obviously, there was at least one buyer, so by definition, Burbank was only asking what the market would bear.

"At auction" is quickly becoming to buyers what "Beckett HI" was to LCS dealers 10-15 years ago.

Burbank listed a bunch of steals when they first switched to eBay. There pricing model didn't account for highly collected sets but instead just a multiplier from high BV. For a couple months everything they listed was getting hit up by player/set collectors and filling many collection holes. Now most everything just sits there.....it's kind of sad.
