Hey all,

I was just wondering what your thoughts are on what the giants have already one this off season Adding Edgar Renteria and Randy Johnson.

I also just read they are looking at adding Joe crede to a one year deal and SUPPOSEDLY have an offer to Manny Ramirez on the table.

If they sign Crede and Manny, will they be back to respectability overnight?

Do they still try to trade Sanchez for another bat?

They could really suprise some people next year if they get their offense in order. The rotation is one of the nastiest in the league.

PS: I think Jonathan Sanchez will get traded.

They had a nice rotation last year, but good pitching will only get you so far without run support. Just ask Matt Cain. Granted the pen blew a handful of games for Cain and that has been upgraded, but I think the Giants really need a bat.

I wouldn't be surprised to see Alderson get a late season callup.

Johnson should help Zito, Lowry and maybe Sanchez in the rotation but they need to add a bat at 1B or 3B to take the very weak West.

Their SP is very solid and Randy Johnson should be able to help our young rotation with his experience. I'd be thrilled to add Manny to our offense (but then Shierholtz and others will be blocked, maybe traded for pitching or a corner infield?).

Pablo Sandoval is very under the radar and continued to mash with buster posey in the AFL/winter leagues. I see a 30+Hr .300 season from him watch out.

If Edgar Renteria and Aaron Rowand can put it together, I think the Giants can possibly have a respectable offense and maybe have a chance for the playoffs (just because the NL West is weak).

I don't see Sanchez being traded unless a true power hitter is coming to the Bay Area, Giants fan like him, the team likes him, and he is a 93-95 lefty.

Bengie Molina will continue to be Big Money Molina and have another .290 20ish HR season with amazing defense.

Tim Lincecum&Matt Cain for 30+ wins in 09 ;)

They are looking really good and very smart... if they sign Manny, they get the division. They should trade Sanchez for a bat, and maybe go after Abreu if they don't end up with Manny. I think they have made the best off-season moves so far and are only going for more... PABLO SANDOVAL!!!

Alderson before Bumgarner? I haven't done tons of research on either, but I assumed that Bumgarner was a bit more developed? I could be easily wrong, though.

Giants have an awesome rotation. If they sign a big bat or a couple decent ones, I think they're gonna be the team to watch.

Alderson was dominant in a high A ball which was a hitters league while Bumgarner dominated and won triple crown in Low A ball where he proved he has the best fastball in the minor leagues, and improved his change up and curveball. He still needs to polish up those pitches but both should start with posey and villalona in AA ball, unless thehy want Villalona and posey at High A ball.

Alderson and Posey are probably the most MLB ready of their top tier prospects

Giants have a ways to go offense-wise. After they signed Bonds to the huge contract in 1993, they essentially decided that they would not develop any more offense. From 1993-2007, they drafted 4 hitters and 14 pitchers with their first-round picks. When Bill Mueller and Pedro Feliz are the crowning achievements of your farm system in the last 15 years, you have a problem.

To his credit, Bonds took his walks and never complained about the lack of protection. Heck, the 2004 Giants were 2nd in the NL in runs scored with the same kind of garbage that they have today. Bonds was that good. But, now that the Giants have kicked Bonds to the curb, they'll have to atone for the years of not developing hitting talent and not signing any big time hitting free agents. No top free agent hitter even wants to play in that ballpark because it's so hard to hit in (Bonds made it look easy; it's a very difficult park even for left-handed hitters). And I still see no one on the Giants capable of achieving 20 HR's or 100 RBI's next year.

Any hitter who comes over will probably see a decline in their HR and RBI production from whatever team they played on previously which means the Giants will probably be overpaying for whatever hitter they do get. I think it'll be years before the Giants develop an average lineup and their pitching is good, not great.

I like the Giants additions this off-season. Renteria is a good sign and I think the Johnson signing is great. Now Cain and Zito won't be facing the opponent's #2 and #3 pitchers, now with Johnson they will face easier competition which should help their stats and the team.
