He will get in. Guy will still player another couple years. End up in the 550 total home run area and close to 3,000 hits. He will be one of those HOF types that after 10-12 years on the ballot will sneak in. My guess the class of 2014.
The class of 2014 is in 5 years. He better retire right now.

I voted for Marlins but, I doubt he'll ever get in. There's too much controversy surrounding him. As said before, Mac, Bonds, Sosa and Raffy get in before Sheff.

I do not feel he is a Hall Of Fame player. He is a perfect example of some of the new wave of HOF eligible players we will continue to see in our lifetime. He was not the best player at his position for a given number of years. His "Body of work" was from 99 - 05. 500 HR will not be automatic in the next 20 years. McGwire is a example but sheffield is another great one. He did not have a hall of fame career. There are guys that will end their careers and not have 500 HR's that were better then Sheffield. Vlad Guerrero will most likely not hit 500. But he is a hall of famer. Sheff is not. And this is not even adding in the involvment with Balco. Sheffield is the model for a guy who will hit 500 HR's but did not have a hall of fame career.

Pretty much exactly how I feel about Thome minus the whole steroid thing. Through various points in his career, Thome had a hard time being considered a top 5 at his position. If not for the DH in the AL, his career would have ended four years ago as he was no longer capable of playing defense any longer. He would have never reached 500 HRs or won a WS ring. Thome can reach 600 HRs, and I will still feel the same way. If he gets in the HOF, which he likely will, I think it should take several tries.

[quote="Craig - 21hawk":q5cfxswl]He's not making it. He is tainted by PEDs and his relationship with Bonds/BALCO, and he is widely thought of as an ass. He is not a great enough player to overcome those two negatives in the eyes of the BBWAA.

Craig

From your post to God's ear, Craig. You can also include disrespecting the game by jaking it to try to force the Brewers to trade him in the first place. Karma's a beyotch.[/quote:q5cfxswl]

We FREAKING HATE Gary Sheffield in Milwaukee.

If you play long enough, you'll eventually hit the numbers considered Hall worthy. Then you need to step back, take a look, and say "Oh, it too him x amount of years longer than most to reach 500 home runs and 3,000 hits?" It is then less impressive.

If he would make the hall, I'd say he should be a Marlin, as that was around the prime of his career, imo.

I feel Bonds and Clemens will make the HOF regardless of whether McGwire, Sosa, Palmeiro and Sheffield make it. I would not lump them all together.

I think your failing to understand the context here. They were ALL, without PED's, top of the line HOF'ers. For the sake of argument and in the context of the given group, there is no need to further segregate the players. However, I see what your saying and only have this to add...

Have you looked at Raffy's numbers? He is most likely the most well rounded, complete ball player since Aaron.

Actually, I think your wrong. I think the accomplishment of playing a long, productive carear is just as impressive and complimentary to the numbers as the numbers are alone!

Infact, for every 15+ year carears you show me with HOF numbers, I'll show you 100+ more without.
