Ive been thinking, should there be one?

I mean, most of the other weight classes are regulated by about 20 pounds.

But a 400lb fighter can fight a 230lb fighter (by the rule book, not practically has it really happened though) and still be called a heavyweight fight.

A 400lb fighter can't fight a 225lb fighter. Atleast not in the UFC. The Heavyweight division is limited to 265lbs. Brock has to cut to get to 265. As I understand it, there really aren't enough guys that would fall into that weight class to make it worth wild.

^^^ What he said. The weight limit is 265. Brock has to cut to get there but by the fights he's 275 280 easy.

A SHW division would be the worst thing possible right now.
You would end up with out of shape 300 lb fatass's all around MMA who contain no athletic ability outside of being able to punch hard.
Imagine people coming into the UFC just because they are 6'5 and 300 lbs so they "may as well".

Does the sport really need a taller/heavier version of Tank Abbott. NO!

At least a guy like Lesnar has a storied wrestling background whos diligently working hard at becoming an all around MMA fighter.

Raising the weight by 15 pounds or so wouldn`t be so bad. But I have no interest in a Super division in the UFC. Don`t want to see a bunch of fatty`s in the octogon.

My main example of who Im talking about is Bob Sapp.

He usually weights around 350 (according to ESPN) when he fights.

Is he a fatty? No, the dude is solid rock.

Same with Lesnar, Lashley, etc.

My point is that it doesnt seem fair that someone weighing in at 280 (lesnar--sure he cuts to 265, but he weighs at least 280 when he fights) can fight someone who weighs in at 225 (couture) and it still be legit. No other division has such a large discrepancy.

It`s the rules, you can`t really say it isn`t fair. It`s not Lesnars fault he has the ability to cut to 265 from his normal weight. And it isn`t his fault Couture came into that fight smaller than he should have. But that was just Handy`s gameplan. I think UFC wants to avoid the Hong Man Choi and Bob Sapp type carnival style attractions so they put the weight at a very reasonable 265. Leave that stuff to DREAM and other organizations. I am glad UFC doesn`t do that anymore, well until the damn Kimbo deal. But I say no go. You want to be a UFC fighter, be able to get to 265 plain and simple. I don`t even think there are that many UFC worthy fighters out there who couldn`t cut to 265 anyway so it isn`t even needed.

First, Bob Sapp sucks.
Second, hes the exact reason I dont want SHW. Hes not a good fighter. Hes just big. Thats exactly my point.

I dont want sucky a$$ fighters fighting just because there big so the chances are they will do well. I want guys with some level of talent. Even Lashley for example has a great wrestling background. If he can incorporate some other aspects of MMA into his game, he will be good.

Thats the difference with guys like Lesnar, Lashley, Carwin. They have a base to begin with and drive to get better and better.

I'm pretty certain the Athletic Commission decides what the weight classes are, not the UFC, but I could be mistaken.

Also, the guys who weigh in significantly lighter than 265 definitely have the option of bulking up if they so choose. Some would rather have the added quickness rather than power of topping out at 265.
