Show off your most vomitrocious expired redemption cards

I don't have any, but I figured this topic comes up often enough that a thread could be made to keep an eye on and discuss these things. While it's a mystery to me, apparently there are some people that value expired redemption cards more than a plain piece of cardboard. I mean, I understand they are pieces of cardboard created by a card manufacturer and they have names of star players usually printed on them, but I wouldn't pay $10, $50, $500 for them that they sometimes get. They can't all be uneducated people buying them. Here's one: 2006 ULTIMATE COLLECTION DEREK JETER SIGNATURE LOGO PATCH 1/1 NEW YORK YANKEES. Five years ago, you could've cashed this in for a dual logoman card of Jeter and Melky Cabrera. That would've been an hot card. So hot, in fact, that its afterglow 3 full years past the expiration date still warrants a $71 bid. OK, the current high bidder here has a feedback of 2, but the underbidder 34 and third place at $35 has 108. So I assume that there are some serious bidders in the mid-double-digit range. All this for a card that has no picture, no design, nothing of value except maybe that it has 'DEREK JETER' and 'LOGO PATCH 1 OF 1' printed in tiny type on a sticker that has been attached to a blank piece of cardboard.

I don't mean to belittle anyone's collecting habits. I think I get it. For all the arbitrary rules we as a hobby have for determining what it worth collecting, there are some weirder ones, but these just seem odd to me. Does anyone collect these things? Is it just player collectors or do serious set builders go for them too? Is anyone buying them maybe to try to still cash in, which I guess isn't unheard of for cards like this logoman? If you go to a cardmaker with an item like this, would they do anything for you?

If Mikey wins this card I bet he can get it fulfilled. The Jeter guys know him and he has a good in at UD.

Ah, you replied before I added my second paragraph. That's interesting. I have heard stories of the companies, especially UD, fulfilling cards past expiration on top-end ones like this, and especially ones that don't have autographs to complicate things. The card was probably actually made 6 years ago and is still sitting in UD's vault, so redeeming it should still be an option, though hopefully not just to people with an 'in'.

I collect the set, and these were before online redemption cards. You had to mail them in, so there aren't many around anymore. I sent in a TON of the rare group B redemptions from 2007.

It's sad that I have a whole album of them. I have a 2006 Matt Kemp in hand now, which is kind of neat.

I honestly think you do better with 1/1 expired redemptions versus expired "normal" redemptions. I pulled a 2007 Sweet Spot Derek Jeter black bat gold ink auto 1/1 redemption about a year and a half after it was expired. Luckily Upper Deck redeemed it and I got it in hand roughly 3 weeks later...quite the quick turnaround there. This beauty ended up going to Mikey's collection

I personally am looking for a 2010 A&G Relic redeemed/used Sig Hansen card.

Actually, I would buy any used Ginter redemptions if anyone wants to sell me one as long as the card has not been made (so no 2011 Hope Solo autos, etc.)

I'm slowly putting these sets together, and would like to have a scan of the redemption card, than just cross it off the checklist.

Nothing too special, but I pulled a 2005 Bowman redemption for 4 uncirculated white parallel rookie cards from ThePit.

Will be interesting to see the outcome of that Jeter, though.

I have one for a reprint of Hank Aarons 1954 rookie card autographed. I got it a couple of years after it was expired. I called topps to see if they would still redeem it and got a big fat NO!. Thanks Topps. I'll post a scan of it tomorrow

I don't have a pic, but a while back there was a member who was busting an un-earthly amount of 2008 Masterpieces. He pulled a Perkins auto redemption. The redeemed version is quite plentiful and inexpensive, so I offered to buy the un-redeemed version. I believe I paid $3 for it.

The lettering is pretty worn, but it's still visible. I'm sure it will completely wear off at some point, but I know what it was for, so that's good enough for me.

I'd be in the market for all redeemed and unredeemed (preferably expired) redemptions of Perkins.

I had a 1999 UD Century Legends Allen Iverson redemption card that I sold in a large lot 2 years ago to Chad(wolverine24). A month later he put it on ebay and it went for about 100.

I'd be interested in 2002 Elite Throwback Threads Auto redemption of Rickey. Was TT-28. I have the card and the sample promo, would like the redemption card as well. I don't think all 100 were redeemed.
