I think you have to turn them on in the settings page. When the board switched to new software the default storage went away.

I had to go into the message settings and check a box stating that I want to keep sent messages. Might want to go through the user CP settings.

Mine work. I must have changed the setting when I signed back up. I hate not being able to read mine.

Click on your name
Edit general setting
scroll down to private messages
click box that says save a copy in my sent folder

Yeah, some sites and email automatically save sent mail by default, some don't. Run into this all the time.
