In your opinion, who do you feel is the MLB single season HR record holder:

Babe Ruth: 60 HR in 154 game season
Roger Maris: 61 HR in 162 game season
Mark McGwire: 70 HR with steroid allegations
Barry Bonds: 73 HR with steroid allegations
Sammy Sosa: 66 HR with steroid allegations

I may be in the minority, but with the era so tainted now, my vote goes to Roger Maris. Everyone who hit more than 61 is named Bonds, Sosa, or McGwire, and all 3 have become synonymous with steroids and baseball (along with Jose, Canseco, Roger Clemens, Jason Giambi, and Rafael Palmeiro...and the list goes on) .

So, who do you feel is the record holder?

Am I wrong, or did ground-rule doubles in Ruth's day actually count as HRs? I thought i read that somewhere.

No question Barry Bonds, he did in an era full of steriods, with both pitchers and hitters using them. Fair playing field, plus with no positive tests, and the fact that baseball did not test for the substance at the time it's a true record.

The record happened, everyone has an opinion on what was best and so on. Ruth hit more HR in his record setting season then most teams did, in bigger ballparks, against non expansion watered down pitching. So best feat goes to Ruth, of course no one wanted Maris to break the record, not even the league president, gave him an * for playing too many games.

Fact is the record was broken, it happen, I was at the game. Can't take that away from the game, just like you can't take away Doc Ellis's no hitters because he was high or any number of records broken by players using other drugs, or the records the ***** league players weren't allowed to break. Bonds is the record holder.

THE KEY WORD BEING: ALLEGATIONS

(Caps intended)

I'm not saying Bonds didn't juice, but until it's proven, he is the single season HR champion.

I think Maris and Bonds should be celebrated. I don't like that the record is so closely tied to PED use, but it's the single-season HR record, Bonds hit those 73 HR's in a single season and we know he wasn't the only person probably on something. I kind of think of there being a pre-90's record and a post-90's record. If someone passes Maris, let's celebrate, if someone passes Bonds, let's really celebrate! :)

Not the entire time, if I remember correctly.

my idea is that both pitchers and hitters were doing it so it doesnt matter to me. Barry Bonds is the homerun king and thats the way it is because he hit the most. think about it. how many more could bonds have hit if they didt walk him or pitch around him so much.

According to Reuters, the US Government, and Balco test results, Bonds* used steroids.

Reuters

Not to mention the fact that Bonds* ADMITTED he used, just that he used them "unknowingly".

how is sosa an option?

There are dumb Cub fans that think that McGwire and Bonds juiced but Sammy didn't. Don't be surprised to see Sammy get some votes.

Keep voting, I am very interested to see how this poll turns out.

Bonds did juice, it's been proven. Here is an article about it. Not the best or most detailed, but just a quick search:Link

The word "allegations" applies to McGwire and Sosa because those two have not been proven.

This poll question might as well read, Which player do you like more then Barry Bonds? Because the truth is Bonds has hit the most HR in a single season. Like him or not.

Bonds cheated to achieve that record, so some people think that his record shouldn't count.

no one really knows if maris or ruth cheated. doubt ruth did, but even if they took some stuff to keep their energy up for 150+ games like an amphetamine isnt that cheating
