No matter how much I hate him Bonds holds the record. Tainted or not, no one has ever hit as many bombs in a season as Bonds.

Who can say definitively that Marris wasn't on something? No one.

i would bet money mantle took a PED. maybe not steroids but something to keep him going through all the pain. even some prescrption pain killers can be considered PED's

If you are of the opinion that painkillers are PEDs, then yes, almost every player is guilty. Are painkillers banned by MLB (I seriously don't know)?

i dont know either, but my point is that even the greatest players take stuff to keep them going across such a long season. unfortunatly mantle didnt take care of himself and i bet he took pain killers.

You see, Therion. This is my point. People make claims like this, and this is what I am talking about. To claim that Maris could have been on PEDs is ludicrous, IF you can't back it up with facts... which I'm certain it can't be. It's like calling everyone guilty and asking to prove that they are innocent... where is the logic in that???

i believe they say it went all the way out... he also is rumored to have hit one 2 foot from the top of the wall in center above the bleachers... in 1934 69 taters.

so your saying that over a 20 year period someone cant lift weights and eat healthy and get big? its crap to compare pictures of many years apart. if you want to find pics, find some that are within a 24 month period

I always find the comparing pictures years apart, must be on steroids argument, pretty funny as well. When i was 18-21 i was a 155 pounds, started working out and eating healthy, by 25/26 i was 200lbs and now at 32 im 235 pounds.

I went the unconventional route and took McGwire with 70. His chase for the HR title gripped the entire nation. It was such a positive feeling watching him belt those HRs that season and I refuse to put any damper on the Summer of '99. Same applies to Sammy Sosa.

All baseball records should be looked at by eras.

This era, there is no option other than Bonds.

Pre-steroid era, there is no option other than Maris.

Segregated era, there is no option other than Ruth.

We'll never know if Ruth or Maris took steroids so as far as im concerned its Bonds.

I hate this statement it is just stupid to me. Nothing against you but there is NOTHING anywhere that even suggests Ruth or Maris did Roids. I think the whole "How do we know they did not do roids" is just some crap some fans came up with after their favorite player got caught and they did not want to admit he was a fraud. Ruth and Maris played the game the right way and unless someone can show me some actual proof that they did otherwise I wish people could just stop with the Ruth could of done roids crap.

* Again nothing against you I am talking more about the arguement in general and not about you. :)

Agree with U vetsgt02. Is already a black eyes for baseball watching this Era. We do not need to accuse past Legend just to make current player look better. Record are there and mlb is not going to change it. Accept it or put asterisk next to it so future generation who haven't see this history know that this player cheated to accomplish this record.

No question about it. Barry Bonds. Just like Pete Rose is banned from baseball, but he is still the Hits King. Personal opinions will never change that.

The poll is about who YOU personally feel is the HR king. I am not questioning who is the official record holder.

I think the fact that 39% of the people polled (so far) chose Maris speaks volumes about how baseball fans view the steroids era. Less than half of the people polled chose Bonds as the single season HR king (47%). The voting between the two is about what I expected: people are pretty much split between Maris and Bonds, but most people feel Bonds is the true HR king.

So who are the two Cubs fans that voted for Sammy Sosa?
