So I am watching a item on Ebay and last time it was up it sold with no bids, so I bid so I don't forget about it and sure enough this time other people bid on it. So I am currently still the high bidder but my max bid is the current price of the item.

If I go and set snipe will the snipe fire if I am the high bidder? In other words will the snipe end up costing me more money?

No. It would be just like adding a higher bid in as the high biider. It should just advance you max but not advance the price.

It depends on the snipe program I guess. I know the one I use (esnipe) basically logs in as me, bids as me, and acts as me. So if the snipe goes off, eBay will only recognize it as a higher maximum bid from you, not another bid, which is what you're worrying about.
